JORDAN: AGAINST ALL ODDS"There it is - the proof that I'm not lying!" So said Jordan back in October, waving a photograph of her 12-week scan to the cameras in the BBC Choice documentary, Jordan: The Truth About Me.

Although she hadn't been counting on a baby - "It was a shock actually but nothing's ever planned, is it?" she said at the time, the future for both mother and baby looked relatively bright. That's bright despite the fact that footballer Dwight Yorke, named by Jordan as the father, had unceremoniously dumped her and expressed doubts that the child was his. She was young, healthy and successful, and the pregnancy went well despite reports of Jordan refusing to give up her party life style and living on diet products and take-aways. But since baby Harvey's birth on May 27th, it seems her life has gone from OK to what must feel like a perpetual nightmare. In the last six months or so, any luck she might have had seems to have completely run out. Too white to be Dwight's?Dwight Yorke arrived at the hospital bearing gifts for his son. But, the Manchester United player, it transpired, still wasn't sure Harvey was his because the baby looked 'too white'. There were rumours about a DNA test but then Yorke decided to drop the action. "Dwight Yorke is the father," said Jordan, setting the record straight. "If Harvey isn't his then it must be a miracle." She didn't know it then but just 10 weeks on, a miracle was just what Jordan was praying for. Doctors had discovered that Harvey was blind. His optic nerve had failed to develop in the womb. A million-to-one tragedy"It was the worst moment of my life," she said, shortly after the diagnosis. "I was heartbroken for him. I immediately asked if I was the cause - was my lifestyle responsible for Harvey's blindness? The doctor said that it wouldn't have caused his condition. It's just a terrible, million-to-one tragedy." Although she was told there was no surgery which could correct her baby's vision, Jordan flew to America where she and Harvey saw one of the world's leading opthamologist in the desperate hope of a cure. "I was told frankly that he'll always be blind,"' she said. "In my heart I'd already accepted that nothing could be done but like any parent I wanted to do all I can." When Harvey was also diagnosed with a growth defect, Jordan, 24, must have wondered if she could take any more bad news. But tragically she's had to. Just a week ago, she announced that she's suffering from a rare form of cancer, Leiomyosarcoma or LMS, which attacks the smooth muscle cells found in most parts of the body and affects just one in four million people. "When the consultant told me, I was absolutely numb,' she says. 'I couldn't even cry. I'm absolutely reeling from the news. And I'm terrified. To discover you have the disease everyone dreads at the same time you are told your son is blind is devastating. But Harvey is my inspiration, my reason for living and beating this thing. With his condition, he can't be allowed to grow up without a mum. I won't let that happen."
