Guest guest
Lani, With autoimmune disease it is not uncommon that you might have symptoms that would come and go. I mean there is always the chance that your illness and symptoms were from something unrelated to the implants, however in all likelyhood the implants are still going to be a source of problems with your health in the future, I mean it is great that you got rid of the rash and other symptoms too, that is wonderful. I think that by getting the implants and capsules out you will be assuring your future health will continue to be good. That is my own personal opinion of course. I would say go ahead with the explant because in the long run it would be the best choice for your future and continued health. And as I said it is common for autoimmune illnesses to wax and whane so while you may feel great now, who knows what might happen next year or two years from now esp if you keep the implants. I hope you will keep us all posted on how you are and what you do. Thanks for the email. Guest guest
I know for sure that science claims Vit C converts elemental iodiNe into potassium iodiDe. I have tested it here at my house and for sure, the color disappears in the presence of Vit C. And since then, if I have iodine stains on my hands and want to get rid of them, I rub a little vit C powder on them and it instantly disappears. The fact that many people say they have done just fine taking Lugol's in orange juice means that maybe the brown color changes but the iodiNe doesn't all convert to iodiDe, or some other difference. Because people have had importantly good results even under these circumstances, it's clear that it's not a clearcut issue, and the question of it mixing in the stomach is therefore even less of a clearcut issue. However, I think it's better to be on the safe side, particularly since I know for sure the color is removed in the presence of Vit C. -- >While I was using Lugol's I was able to get rid of all my breast cysts and >I was putting the Lugol's in orange juice every day. Guest guest
There is definitely a difference between Lugol's liquid and Iodoral in terms of where the iodine is absorbed into the body and whether there is any potential for stomach interactions. Iodoral passes through the stomach and doesn't dissolve until it reaches the small intestine, therefore there is no concern whatsoever about stomach contents when taking Iodoral. Because we are made to eat all kinds of foods together, I also take it with something of a grain of salt that there are any concerns with Lugol's liquid and stomach interactions. However, because I have seen for myself that Vit C does remove the brown color of elemental iodiNe, I personally am making the choice not to take my Lugol's and liquid Vit C at the same time. Frequently, however, I wind up taking a Vit C tablet at the same or nearby time. The liquid Lugol's is absorbed much more rapidly than the tablet of C, which has to dissolve first. People are making WAY TOO MUCH of this issue, in my opinion. It's just not that complicated. As I was saying yesterday, people have a tendency to want to make supplementation in general more complicated than it needs to be, which leads to fatigue and failure in one's protocols. RELAX please. -- >That may be the difference. I don't think we know enough. Guest guest
Iodine should be taken with food. So I suggest taking your Lugol's after your breakfast, or with lunch if you're really that worried about it. Find a solution that works for you and then stop worrying, please. There is no proof that this is actually something to worry about anyway. And, we are made to eat all different things together, which in the wild contains both Vit C and iodine. This question has been blown way out of proportion. -- >I take powdered vitC supplement as soon as I wake. How long after should I >wait to take my Lugols then so it isn't affected by the Vit C? Guest guest
I have pondered this question because I was looking for a non staining iodine and had observed the clearing of the lugol's diluted in four oz of water when I dipped a spoon with some ascorbic acid attached. On a this web http://chemistry.about.com/od/demonstrationsexperiments/ss/vitctitration.htm I found the below info which suggests that the ascorbate donates electrons to the iodine converting it into what they call triiodide.Enough ascorbate and all the iodine is converted to iodide. The ascorbate becomes oxidized or " spent" so to speak and loses its anti-oxidant power. The iodide now has the reducing power (electrons) and can act as an anti-oxidant. Perhaps the "reduced" iodide concentrates in the breast and prostate providing bonus anti-oxidant power to those tissues.I take 15g of ascorbate and 12 mg of iodine (lugol's) daily. I take them ten minutes apart. My PSA is down to .5 from 3 a few years ago. Below 1 is very low risk for prostate cancer - that's good. Note that the oxidized ascorbate is dehydroascorbate which in a study on pubmed was taken up by melanoma cells at ten times the rate of normal melanocytes. I am suggesting that anyone with a melanoma mix the lugols with ascorbate (ascorbic acid in water becomes hydrogen ascorbate) and apply to lesion. I got good results painting my melanoma lesion with straight lugols 5%. This vit C/lugol's combo may be even more potent if the dehydroascorbate will penetrate the skin. We know Lugol's will. "Iodine is relatively insoluble, but this can be improved by complexing the iodine with iodide (as in lugol's) to form triiodide: I2 + I- <--> I3- (Note only one excess electron here.)Triiodide oxidizes vitamin C to form dehydroascorbic acid: H+ + C6H7O6- + I3- --> C6H6O6 + 3I- + 2H+ (Note three excess electrons in the three iodide anions )As long as vitamin C is present in the solution, the triiodide is converted to the iodide ion very quickly. Howevever, when the all the vitamin C is oxidized, iodine and triiodide will be present, which react with starch to form a blue-black complex. The blue-black color is the endpoint of the titration. This titration procedure is appropriate for testing the amount of vitamin C in vitamin C tablets, juices, and fresh, frozen, or packaged fruits and vegetables. The titration can be performed using just iodine solution and not iodate, but the iodate solution is more stable and gives a more accurate result. From: B <vbaker@...>iodine Sent: Tue, May 3, 2011 3:06:58 PMSubject: Re: Something strange Iodine should be taken with food. Guest guest
Everyone has different tolerances to the taste. Some people don't mind it, others can't bear it, others are somewhere in between. It's simply a matter of taste, and as we know, trying to make rules or laws about matters of taste is futile. So someone insisting to you that it doesn't taste fine is just as inappropriate as you telling someone it does taste fine. Each person is different on this. The list is here to do things like help people make good choices in dealing with their taste questions. -- At 09:51 PM 5/3/2011, you wrote: >I've been tasking it in plain water and its fine to me. Guest guest
My original post went to spam. Why? I will try to rewrite. I have looked at the equation referenced because I was looking for a non staining iodine. I had observed the crystal clearing of four drops lugol's diluted in 2 oz of water when I dipped a spoon with a tiny ascorbic acid residue on it. The equation I remodeled in the spam folder email. Nevertheless it suggests that the ascorbate (ascorbic acid is hydrogen ascorbate) donates electrons to the triiodide (ie lugols) converting it from triiodide into three iodide ions. No iodine left. What does this mean? (As you know potassium iodide in solution consists of the potassium cation (K+) and iodide anion (I-).)My experience is that very little ascorbate and all the iodine is converted to iodide. The ascorbate becomes oxidized or " spent" so to speak and loses its anti-oxidant power to the iodine. Ascorbate becomes dehydroascorbate. The formerly iodine now iodide has the reducing power (electrons) and can act as a (Super) anti-oxidant in tissues where it allegedly collects like the breast and prostate.Note: electron donors like ascorbate and iodide are called anti-oxidants in nutrition literature. Perhaps the "reduced" iodide (an anti-oxidant) concentrates in the breast and prostate providing bonus anti-oxidant power to those tissues? In any event, I take 15g of ascorbate and 12 mg of iodine (lugol's) daily. I take them ten minutes apart. So be it if all the lugol's becomes iodide (I-). I am not concerned, because my PSA is down to .5 from 3 a few years ago. Below 1 on the PSA is extreme low risk for prostate cancer - nothing wrong with that. Note: the oxidized ascorbate residue is dehydroascorbate which in a study on pubmed was taken up by melanoma cells at ten times the rate of normal melanocytes. What does that mean? Could be that anyone with a melanoma should mix the lugols with ascorbate and apply to lesion. This vit C/lugol's combo may be potent if the dehydroascorbate will penetrate the skin. We know Lugol's will. On the other hand maybe the melanoma cells thrive on oxidized ascorbate ( dehydroascorbate)? A pubmed study said sodium ascorbate caused apoptosis in melanoma cells. (Search using "apoptosis melanoma"). I am still pondering which way to go when I get my next melanoma lesion. (For those with cancer, I would also recommend googling dr Kelley's One Answer to Cancer and dr-'s web page. The latter was interviewed in Suzane Somers book "Knockout") In the past I got good results painting my melanoma lesion (ten times a day) with straight lugols 5%. But that is the subject of another email if anyone is interested.Below explains why Lugol's is water soluble: the iodine takes on a charge when complexed with iodide anion. Polar molecules diffuse and dissolve in water. Non-polar molecules like iodine sink to the bottom. "Iodine is relatively insoluble, but this can be improved by complexing the iodine with iodide (as in lugol's) to form triiodide: As long as vitamin C is present in the solution, the triiodide is converted to the iodide ion very quickly. Howevever, when the all the vitamin C is oxidized, iodine and triiodide will be present, which react with starch to form a blue-black complex. The blue-black color is the endpoint of the titration. From: baxrox <baxrox@...>iodine Sent: Mon, May 2, 2011 7:54:05 AMSubject: Re: Something strange For those interested in the chemistry between ascorbic acid and iodine this link may be of in interest: http://chemistry.about.com/od/demonstrationsexperiments/ss/vitctitration.htm Page 2 begins an exercise to determine the amount of Vitamin C in samples such as fruit juice. A different kind of simple experiment would be to use something like a natural apple juice that has ascorbic acid in it. When the bottle of juice is first opened, poured into a glass and Lugol's added, the Lugol's will be purple and then turn clear so all you see is the color of natural apple juice, a cloudy tan color. If the apple juice is left open for long enough time the ascorbic acid will have dissipated from the product so when the juice is poured into a glass and Lugol's is added, the entire liquid will turn purple (or blue-black) ~ the color of iodine. > > >Something strange happened when I took my Lugols. Guest guest
I've been putting vitamin C with my Lugol's and salt. I've still gotten detox symptoms. I also put vitamin C and orange juice with the salt for my daughter to mask the salt taste. She hasn't detoxed much. I will play it safe and go back to using stevia for my daughter and take a vitamin C pill with me to take at work. I use a lot of stevia with my daughter since she doesn't do pills.
