Keli,

I would get rid of anything that is an artificial sweetener. I just don't think any of them are safe. If I see anything sweet in a package that says "Sugar Free", I don't go near it! (Of course, I read all my labels.) I would definitely avoid saccharin, aspartame, Equal, Nutrasweet, Splenda, or anything else that is some man made creation in a lab.

I use only sucanat, honey, molasses, maple syrup, or stevia. These are all natural, from plants, (sucanat is short for Sugar Cane Natural) without anything scary to them! And if I have to choose between sugar or the fake sweeteners, I always pick the sugar.

I have not heard of the isomalt.

I have just checked out the bottle of Diet Coke in my fridge and it does not say aspartame on the ingredient list but the "Artificial Sweetner no. 951 and 950"....shouldn't they HAVE to say Aspartame? I have been staying away from "sugar free" goods that have this in it and stupidly 'thought' that this was NOT in Diet Coke! I have seen it listed on cheaper diet drinks though. I also drink Diet Sprite! I guess it's in it too? Just went through my pantry and have an old unopened packet of Equal in it (glad I didn't use it!)- it does say on the packet that the artificial sweetening substance is Aspartame. I sometimes use Splenda in my tea, it's ingredients are - Lactose, L-Eucine, Artificial sweetner (Sucralose), croscarmellose, sodium magnesium stearate.....should I stop using this too even though it doesn't have aspartame in it?????? Has anyone got any info on isomalt??? This is another sweetner that I've noticed in some "sugar free" candies.

Hi Keli

I don't know anything about the isomalt but I do know that the newest

sweetener is supposed to be the splenda and it is supposed to be safe. Of

course this could change like everything else does right? Ya never know. I

am lucky in that I never have liked soda pop at all and hardly ever drink

even a sip of it. I am basically a water person, I juice on occasion, I love

coffee and that seems to be my main weakness at this point.

Thanks for writting it is always nice to hear from you.
