Guest guest
Vitamin C May Prevent Stroke Consuming vitamin C may prevent your risk of having a stroke, especially if you have high blood pressure or are overweight. In a study of more than 2,400 middle-aged men published in the June 2002 issue of Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association, researchers found that men with the lowest amount of vitamin C in their blood were 2.4 times more likely to have a stroke than men who had the highest levels of vitamin C. This statistic rose to almost three times the likelihood of having a stroke if the men with low vitamin C levels were also overweight or had high blood pressure. However, vitamin C may not be the direct link to reduced stroke risk. It is possible that participants who consumed greater amounts of vitamin C also ate healthier and exercised more regularly. Therefore, consuming foods rich in vitamin C should be just part of a healthy, well-balanced diet.- M.
