Hi e:

Can you please tell me more about what's involved with having tubes tied? Is it major surgery? When I get a life and have sex, this seems like a good alternative to taking synthetic BCP's.

Take care.

LM-- Having a tubal is a simple surgery. It's done laparoscopically, and takes about 30-40". SDS (same day surg). Minimal pain, other than the annoying pain from the gas they put in you to lift your organs up. I had more neck and shoulder discomfort than actual surgical or incisional pain. I just did a lot of walking because that helps get the gas out. I think I had 2-3 stab wnd incisions, and I can't even tell where they are now. I was on a plane 2 days later to Vegas to do some work for Johson & ! If you don't want kids, having a tubal is great. I can't take BCP's because I had a stroke, Norplant contains silicone, Depo-Provera has the same potential side effects as BCP's, an IUD can be associated with many problems including infection and difficulty removing, and I refuse to stick a diaphragm up me prior to sex, as to me that would just ruin the mood. Plus I hate kids (as you know) and never, ever want to have them. My doc was so cool. After reviewing all my hx, I told her that I was leery of having metal clips in my body after the way I reacted to my sternal wires and my titanium hardware in my neck. She said that a tubal can also be done by cauterizing the tubes instead of placing clips. So, that's what we did, as she did not want to take a chance placing metal in my body with the reactions I've had in the past. Because there's always the chance that the tubes can rejoin, she cauterized a significant portion of them, and took pics to show me. It's pretty cool. But a tubal is not 100%. Just remember that. Pregnancy can still happen, although it's not very common. e ----- Original Message ----- From: perlesetlacet@... Marie,

Just make sure they don't tie off the tubes with any material that you may react to--such as silicone! If they can do it without leaving anything at all inside your body that is foreign, that would be best.

Or get the guy, if he really loves you, to get a vasectomy, it is SO much easier for men then women, hard to get most guys to do it though. My husband offered so I was like, YEAH sure get it done. He was fine, it was no big deal at all, we were back at it in a week, sorry to be crude, ha ha!

Thanks e! This is a good option for me. I don't really like kids either. If they belong to someone else I can tolerate them for a brief period of time, but frankly the idea of giving birth, raising kids and living in the burbs is tantamount to a death sentence. No thanks. How refreshing that is to be able to admit that--esp. to a like-minded individual--lol!

Take care.

Yes, a vasectomy is way easier to do and to recover from. Not that a tubal is a difficult surg or hard to recover from, it's just that most vasectomies can be done in a docs office, give them some local, snip away, and walla---it's all done. Minimal pain, minimal cost, minimal everything. But I think for some reason men think that if they have a vasectomy, they will lose their manhood or something ridiculous. And from what I understand a vasectomy is much more successful than a tubal and less likely to cause pregnancy, although even with vasectomies, people can still get pregnant. Unfortunately, I have no desire to get married or settle down with a man, so I can't see a man getting a vasectomy for a woman who doesn't want to commit. I just want the sex, and the company!!!!!:) e ----- Original Message ----- From: Heer Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 6:33 AM Subject: Re: Tubes Tied--e Or get the guy, if he really loves you, to get a vasectomy, it is SO much easier for men then women, hard to get most guys to do it though.
