Guest guest
Patty--I intend to read that book as a few quotes he has made are logical. . .and I've heard the book is good. What's interesting about your comment re osteoporosis is that my endo used to tell me the same thing about taking thyroid hormone to become euthyroid. . .it says to me that although thryroid hormone may help one achieve euthyroid status by testing, one may not really be achieving it internally. I know that natural thyroid hormone contains many more aspects than synthetics, but I haven't asked what the results of long-term ingestion are re osteopenia. It does contain calcitonin, which synthetics do not. There are no long-term studies re conventional hormone and we may find there aren't any for natural hormone either. Thyroid hormones are another of those things that were never approved by the FDA until recently--synthetic or natural. I believe one might have to have hypothyroidism for some time before it alone will cause osteoporosis; I say this because I was taking synthetic hormone for eleven years (although somewhat hypothyroid during that time) and at age 56 still showed only the osteopenia of a woman slightly over 30 and only in the hips. The hips hurt, but supposedly osteopenia/osteoporosis doesn't. My doc told me I had osteoporosis and wanted to prescribe something. . .I had to go get the test results myself to find out this was incorrect. Many cases of osteopenia and osteoporosis are due to a lack of Vitamin D which we get from sunshine, but do we get enough and/or is something destroying what we get? What is interesting is that Vitamin D is lipid-soluble, thryoid hormones work in the lipids and silicone moves in the lipids (it is alledgedly hydrophobic) I feel rather certain there is a connection, but I cannot state what it is. What I do know, is that triglycerides were below normal, as were Vitamins A & D--all in the lipid system. Cholesterol went up somewhat at this time.
