I'm relatively new to the site. I'd like them - just had my explant last month. Found out about Dr. Feng, did research, made an appointment, flew to Ohio and had my explant - all within the span of 7days. Therein lies the basis for my psychological high - before I had found out about her I had spent 4 months seeing different physicians! You did a good job of finding her! I've seen the deterioration of the medical profession in my lifetime - I don't know that I'll see the overhaul of it during the rest of my lifetime. I've had some good physicians; two have retired and two others left the practice of medicine since they couldn't handle what the profession had become under managed care. Dr. Feng doesn't know anyone in Boston area, or even in MA - I asked. In fact, through the Center for Policy... in D.C. I learned an explanation for why MA is so especially difficult when it comes to the implant issue: The New England Journal of Medicine doesn't support any connection between implants and health problems. It will take finding a maverick therefore, someone a bit like Dr. Feng. So many people think we/Boston are the Medical Center for fine hospitals - but what is a "fine" hospital with effete physicians? I even have an in-law who's an ENT, but I consider him effete too. When you mention support groups - do you mean there are some here in MA? How do I find them? I've copied your message to two ladies who lead large internet support groups. I am concerned that your address will cause some women to hesitate to contact you. Many women hesitate to share much with someone who comes across as anonoymous. Some women still don't have settlements and are afraid to speak publically. From information and belief I think there are two kinds of psychiatrists - the first being those who went into the profession to figure out and get help with what's wrong with themselves... If I didn't find it so appalling I would be amused by the fact that most psychiatrists continue to go to a psychiatric mentor/superior to be able to function themselves and know how to "treat" their patients - they're like middlemen... Ear problem? - what kind? I ask because I have had something akin to eczema in my ears for years now and I know it is a side effect of the silicone... I suddenly lost the hearing in one year about ten years ago. . . It was diagnosed as Mienere's disease even though I didn't experience the vertigo that goes with Mieneres. I kept arguing with them, hoping they could treat it. Finally, last year an ear doctor said it probably wasn't Mieneres. What it is, is a fungal/yeast infection. . . I had to do the research to find that out! . . . I found I could treat it with raw garlic . . . but that didn't stop it from reoccuring when I quit eating the garlic. . . This doctor is treating me with a sterioid eardrop that appears to be working, at least while I'm using it. The Environmental Center in Dallas is doing some work on detoxing specific to silicone implants? That is my understanding through Dr. Melmed, plastic surgeon, Dallas. He is one of our advocates. He recommended them. Also Dr. Kolb has a detox protocol . .. you can find a link to her in the "getting better" message I'm sending. Why were you looking into the molecular testing? (Thanks again, by the way.) Someone circulated a website that listed a number of doctors . .. Dr. Nicolson was listed as treating autoimmune diseases. I sent him a question about treating implant related diseases. At the same time, I asked Dr. Zuckerman (she's the best advocate we have with connections in the FDA and congress.) The message I'm sending is extremely long. . . Please don't let it deter you. Many of the things that will help you are things you can do yourself. . . It can seem overwhelming, but it needn't be. Just take your time and see how you feel as you go. I firmly believe the body's natural state is health . . . If we give it what it wants (and get rid of the stuff it doesn't want), it will heal itself. I've had a hard time communicating with my doctors too. It seems they are "allowed" so many minutes per patient by insurance, and thus under the gun to "perform". After 10 years and even more doctors, I'm finally getting the treatment I've needed for an ear problem that has been going on for that long. Perhaps it's because I don't camp out on their doorstep insisting on action! I've always thought that I needed to develop a relationship with a doctor to stand out of the masses . . . I feel like I'm on the assembly line with the latest doctor I've seen, yet she seems to be doing the best job of getting to the bottom of things . . . Go figure!! (I've been through five PCP's in three years because of insurance, moves, etc. I'm in Arkansas . . . moved here from Texas last year. BTW, my husband's daughter is a resident in Boston at Massachusetts General in psychiatry, but I wouldn't recommend her . . . she need to resolve her own issues before getting involved in somebody else's! There are some good doctors though, asking about the support groups can help find them. You found one of the best in Dr. Feng. Does she know anyone in the Boston area? I know that the Environmental Center in Dallas is doing some good work in the area of detoxing. It does take some time. I took two years off work before I felt like I could hold down a job again. Have I sent you my suggestions for getting better? I guess the best I can suggest is getting on the phone and calling around until you find someone you feel comfortable with . . . Medical schools can be a good place to start! I don't know how they work with insurance though. Best wishes and prayers, Rogene
