Guest guest
-Marie, I think that it varies from doctor to doctor. When you sign the informed consent, many consents state that results are not guaranteed, and may vary from what the discussed and expected results would be. By signing this consent, you are absolving that ps (or any surgeon for that matter) from any unexpected/undesirable results. That said, some ps' will redo the surgery at no charge because they want their pts to be happy and also because most surgeons pride themselves on their work. However, I would highly suggest that you discuss this with your ps well in advance of your surgery so you are both on the same page. If he/she says they won't charge you for the surgery, get it in writing! You will, however, be responsible for the anesthesiologist and OR fees. I was hoping that my neurosurgeon would not charge me for my second neck surgery, since the first one failed so quickly and he used hardware that was considered "high profile" and especially since I had gone through hell after that failed fusion. But he did charge me ($12,000) and even though my insurance company pre-authorized it, now they're not paying; hence the reason I'm taking my insurance company to court--possibly federal court. Anyway, every doctor will be different in regards to not charging for bad cosmetic surgery results. Just be sure to get it in writing if the ps says he/she won't charge for it! e ----- Original Message ----- From: Heer Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2002 5:37 PM Subject: Re: PS charges--To Dr. Kolb et al To my knowledge most PS's would not charge their own fee if they were fixing a mistake they had made. Guess it would depend on the PS but if they felt the patient was not happy with the results you would think they would try to fix it especially if it was some thing that could have been fixed in the original surgery. Hope that helps hugs C ----- Original Message ----- From: perlesetlacet@... Take for example if you have a mastopexy/reduction but the surgery does not come out quite the way you and your PS anticipated--let's say one breast is perhaps 30% larger than the other and one breast is about one inch higher than the other (not being this way prior to the mastopexy). Clearly more work needs to be done. Generally speaking, do you pay for ANOTHER surgeon's fee for mastopexy plus anesthesia and facility or just the anesthesia and facility fee? I have know folks who have had revisional work done and there is no surgeons fee. Thanks for any input.LM
