Guest guest
Hi All: A friend of mine is looking to have an explant, she checked with one PS and this doc wants 14,000, YES, 14,000 to explant. This is pretty outrageous but true. Evidently my friend can't afford this (who the hell here could)? so suggestions would be appreciated. I know Dr. Huang in Denver is about 6,500 and this includes a lift. Even Feng is cheaper than this other PS at about 10,000. -Marie
Guest guest
Hi -Marie, If the Dallas area is geographically convenient for her, I will be happy to provide her with names here. As most of you know, I cannot post doctors names on a group for very important reasons. If your friend wants these doctors names, please have her contact me personally, and I will try to help her. Yes, $14,000 is more than absurd! Guest guest
$14,000 is highway robbery, and taking advantage of women who are vulnerable. Most women who are in need of explant are ill and will do anything to feel better, and as such, are desperate to get their implants removed. They don't shop around, and instead think that while $14K is a lot of money, that's what they need to pay to get a good explant. Bullsh**. This ps is obviously taking advantage of these vulnerable women, and that is unethical. I have not heard of any ps we frequently recommend charging that much money. Why anyone would pay $14,000 for an explant when there are excellent surgeons who will do it for half of that is beyond me! LM, tell your friend that she needs to go ps shopping, and don't accept that price at all. That is ridiculous!! For the cost of a good explant, anesthesia, OR suite, and airfare, she can go to Dr. Huang and still not pay anywhere close to that!! e ----- Original Message ----- From: perlesetlacet@... Guest guest
Most insurance companies will cover the costs of the explant except for the copay if it is precerted. . -----Original Message-----From: JUSTINE RENE' [mailto:justinerene1@...]Sent: Sunday, October 20, 2002 8:44 PM Subject: Re: A friend looking for explant $14,000 is highway robbery, and taking advantage of women who are vulnerable. Guest guest
e: Hi. It really sux that a doc would take such advantage of women in this situation. It's one thing to charge a lot for a face lift or the like, but this is a MEDICAL necessity. Hopefully we'll find a PS for this woman. Guest guest
e: Hi! Very well put. I agree 100%. Thanks for sharing--it's good that you know how these insurance companies work. Makes sense. Price gouging just screws the patient in the long run--the doc too if the company doesn't pay. Take care. LM
Guest guest
e: Hi. Doesn't Huang only charge about 6,500 for an explant AND mastopexy? If this is so, this is a good deal--you get a two for one! LM
Guest guest
Even if insurance did cover a $14K explant, that is still price gouging and highway robbery. I have not heard of one ps who charges anywhere close to $14k for an explant, and this includes docs in NYC, Chicago, and LA, where the cost of living is higher, and medical costs are typically higher. Then, if insurance doesn't pay for the explant, to expect a woman to pay $14k when she can get an excellent explant done for much, much cheaper is ludicrous. Furthermore, if we are to get insurance companies to cover the cost of explant, they will stop doing it if docs (like this particular doc) start jacking up the price just for the sake of making more money for themselves. $14k is nowhere near close to being U & C (usual and customary) and insurance companies are going to start questioning covering explants if one doc charges $14k and most other docs charge $5-10K. It is docs like this who jack up the cost of healthcare. They overcharge for services, get away with it, but in the end, the general public pays in the form of higher premiums and denials of certain surgeries. e ----- Original Message ----- From: perlesetlacet@... Guest guest
Yeah I agree and since I think I know who it is, I am not afraid to stop ever recommending this PS nor will I be afraid to tell people this PS is charging this exorbitant amount ----- Original Message ----- From: JUSTINE RENE' Sent: Tuesday, October 22, 2002 5:54 PM Subject: Re: A friend looking for explant Even if insurance did cover a $14K explant, that is still price gouging and highway robbery. Thanks for the advice about working out because it's making me feel better. I've been hiking every day and I'm getting toned! I have a long way to go before I'm as toned as you--but it's a start.
