Hi!

What is the BEST form of T4? This is the only thyroid med will give me. He mentioned a few, though I can't recall which is best. He does not like Synthyroid.

Have a great day.

I don't think there is a "best" as each person's

metabolism and general internal make-up is different.

Some people do fine on synthetic hormones and

some only do fine on natural ones.

My pharmacist friend said he has never heard a

complaint about Armour--so maybe the T3 that

Armour delivers just stays circulating until it's

needed--Im not certain how that works. T-3 is not

necessarily used, you know. It supposedly is

used only when it's needed and just circulates until

that time. Thyroid hormones work by binding to

receptor sites. There is a test to make sure you

have the right amount of receptor/binding sites and

that they are not being affected by something.

There is a lot involved in thryoid problems. . .a lot

of "ifs". You may be put on a replacement but

when tested the next time, find it isn't doing what

it should. Then there is an adjustment made to

the hormone meds until the next test. . .it is usually

at least six weeks between tests.
