Hi ,

I received your letter from Ilena Rosenthal, and wanted to invite you to join us on the Saline Support group on so you can get some help and encouragement as you go through this upcoming surgery. I was impressed to read that you realized that your saline implants are probably the cause of your autoimmune problems. So many women refuse to believe it or are in denial. I also have autoimmune disease from my saline implants, which were removed in February of 1998. But almost all of my symptoms are gone now, and I was only recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's.

You have questions on capsulectomy surgery--and you are right--it is extremely important for you to get the capsules removed as well as the implants in order to recover and strengthen your immune system again. We have several testimonies on our site of women who have been through this surgery and have recovered.

Basically capsulectomy surgery requires that the surgeon be meticulous in removing the implants either en bloc (which means the entire implant is removed in one piece with the scar capsule--we have pictures of this on our website under the "Photos" section), or removing the implant first and then going in to remove every last trace of the scar capsule along with any contaminated surrounding tissue. It is also important that he/she installs drains that will be removed several days afterwards, in order to allow the drainage of contaminated bodily fluids, that may include bacteria, fungus and silicone particles.

The details associated with this surgery can be found on several websites that are dedicated to explantation, such as Lany's site

http://community-2.webtv.net/lany25/LifeAfterBreast/

There are also other links suggested for breast implant info, which you can find in our "Links' section.

Our group can be found at /

I hope you join us! You will probably realize that finding the right doctor for explant will be your biggest hurdle, as so many of them do NOT understand how to do this very important surgery properly. Making the best choice now will protect your health in the long run, and give you the very best chance for recovery, so take this part of it extremely seriously. I have known of others who have made bad choices and it has negatively impacted their recovery.

Take care, we hope to hear from you soon.

There is absolutely no question that she should have the scar capsule

removed. It is imperative that she have a total capsulectomy, not a

partial one, and certainly, if any doctor tells you that it is

alright to leave the capsule in, RUN from that doctor. Find one who

understands that implant scar capsules DO CAUSE PROBLEMS and will

honor your request for full removal along with the implants. We have

often posted Dr. Blais's comments regarding problematic scar tissue.

I will find it and post it again.
