-I am curious if any of you with low thyroid have had your adrenal

function checked as they are closely related. If you are taking thyroid

meds without improvement, have your adreanl function checked as that

could be contributing. Its a simple saliva test you can do at home. D

Had mine tested twice.  Once, a 12 hour test clearly showed low adrenal function

until mid day, then slowly improving for the rest of the day.  But it was from a

" respected " mail order lab, so most MD's and insurance companies don't trust

it.  I was later tested, after being on thyroid, for 3 hours, from 12-3pm, at

Stanford.  They found nothing...so either the thyroid meds I had been

on improved it, or, Stanford did it at the wrong time of the day, or their test

wasn't as sensitive as the mail order test.

If you haven't seen any improvement from Synthroid, you should try another

thyroid Rx.  For example, Armour (a natural derivative of pig thyroid that

contains more complete hormones but may be a little more variable in content),

or Levoxyl (don't go generic-it's a bit different), or consider adding Cytomel,

e.g. 5mcg.

I couldn't tolerate Synthroid, did OK on Armour, and also did OK on Levoxyl +

Cytomel.
