I did not receive any type of discount, nor have I ever rec'd a discount for surgery, except in the case of my implant surgery. The ps who implanted me was a doc on staff at the hospital I worked for, and he cut his fee in half. But other than that, I've never rec'd any discount. Dr. Huang did not give me a discount, and my explant was not 3 hrs long. It was 90". While some docs will give medical professionals a discount, many do not, and with as many surgeries as I've had, I should know. Dr. Huang's surgical fee at the time I had the explant done was $3500, (Feb 2001) and that was a flat rate, regardless of how long the surgery was. What would have increased my price would have been the OR time, as that was billed per minute. Dr. Huang now charges around $5000 for her explant (I can't find her quote I asked for, but it's around somewhere). Her fee is a flat rate, regardless of how long the surgery is.

e, You did not say whether you received a discount as an employee in the medical profession. I believe I recall that you are an RN. What was the insurance rate that Dr. Haung charged for a 3 HR explant surgery?
