SAN ANTONIO - Wells, MD, Long Beach, Calif., was today named president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the largest plastic surgery organization in the world and the foremost authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Dr. Wells took office at the Society's 71st Annual Scientific Meeting, November 2 - 6 in San . He will serve for one year. Dr. Wells received his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, and has completed residencies in general and plastic surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans, La., and the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va. He received his board certification from The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1978. He is also on the medical staffs of St. 's Medical Center, Long Beach; Los Alamitos Hospital; Hoag Presbyterian Hospital, Newport Beach and Community Hospital of Long Beach. He is also affiliated with the University of California Irvine, Plastic Surgery Division. Before his medical residencies in 1971, Dr. Wells served as Lt. Commander, U.S.N.R for the U.S. Navy serving at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. He was deployed to Vietnam for 11 months beginning in January 1972 as General Surgeon and Senior Medical Officer on the U.S.S. Midway, CVA 41.
