Guest guest
I also got a warning from Norton: <snip>The attachment: " images.pif " to the message: " Re: Re: [ ] G's question " <end snip> was infected with the W32.Badtrans.13312@mm virus. For some reason this list, among more than a dozen lists that I'm a member, has more virus warnings than any other, and some of the other lists produce 150+ emails per day. Is this just a passing threat or is this a constant problem? It almost makes one suspect that (and I'm not accusing Geraldine or any legitimate member of this list) that they are being intentionally planted. Isn't there some way that the posts can be " cleaned/scanned " before they post to the list? To whom should I direct my concerns? Is there is a list moderator, I must have missed who that is when I signed up. I would appreciate any help and answers/suggestions that any of you have. Guest guest
What I'm seeing on other groups about this virus is that when we post to the group, infected computer sends " attachment " emails to those who posted. So I don't think this has something to do with them posting to the group. One person in my other group was on no-mail, has not posted. I had to unsub her until her computer is well. I've also heard from a group member on another group that her Norton didn't catch it either. -- Yumi Guidotti yumig@...
Guest guest
Re: virus warnings " I would appreciate any help and answers/suggestions that any of you have " That's very easy! DON'T OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS!!!! Anyone who opens up an attachment from anyone on these lists is very, very foolish indeed. Also, anyone who sends a message as an attachment should understand that the smart people will never see what they want to communicate because the message will be deleted, sight unseen. I don't even open attachments from my relatives unless there is a personalized note in the message from them telling me they sent the attachment. It's really very simple! Guest guest
I go one step further. If they say what they are sending in the attachment, I still don't open it unless they call me to inform me that they sent an attachment for me to open and what it is. I believe there are some viruses that can tell you what is in the attachment. In addition, they still may have a virus on their machine and not know it, so always be sure you have an update virus protection program. I now do online virus protection that gives you daily updates if they are available, even though I was hesitant....but after I spent hours trying to get a virus off a machine and finally had to reformat the hard drive, I now feel it's worth it. So, although attachments are easier for the sender, like you said, they won't get read by many.
