The guideline now is just to take the spit test and really SEE where your levels are of DHEA, Estrogen, etc. The nationally known woman doctor who will soon publish the side-effects is Dr. Northrup. felicidades, Felicia

A couple of years back when we were having a lot of discussion of progesterone creams on this group, I did a lot of reading on the subject, and it seemed to me that most sources said that the wild yam creams did not contain any progesterone, only the precursor diosgenin, for which there is no scientific proof that the body converts this to other hormones. Most commercial products that use hormones from wild yam sources undergo chemical manipulation in labs to convert the diosgenin to hormones. I would suggest talking to a specialist who is knowledgeable in this field about it, before you spend money on wild yam creams. I saw Christiane Northrup on a PBS broadcast and was much impressed by her views on medical crises as a catalyst for personal growth, and her wit and humor. However, I am not much impressed by her website www.drnorthrup.com as I find it very commercial/marketing oriented. One of the products she recommends is test kits for hormone levels, if anyone is interested. Liz G.

Hi Shari, I do use and like natural progesterone cream. It definitely takes away the hot flashes. They say that it does other things, as well - helps with vaginal dryness, helps restore libido, increases collagen in the skin, increases bone density, helps use fat for energy and promotes production of energy. I can say, for sure, that it took away the hot flashes. After they were gone, I thought perhaps they would have gone away anyway, so I stopped the progesterone cream. It took about 5 days, but they came right back. I started right back up, and they went away again. I can also say, that my skin has more elasticity. I won't say that I have less wrinkles, but I think they are less obvious, because the skin turgor is better. Of course we don't know what we are preventing, but perhaps with better skin elasticity, new wrinkles are being prevented. Wouldn't natural progesterone cream still be classed as hormone replacement therapy though?? thanks Persian -- " If we cut up beasts simply because they cannot prevent us and because we are backing our own side in the struggle for existence, it is only logical to cut up imbeciles, criminals, enemies, or capitalists for the same reasons " ~C.S.
