Guest guest
its the sugar that causes it to 'candy' (harden).. it has to get to 300ºF in order to harden into a lozenge. i don't know what else would cause this hardening process if sugar or honey or molasses wasn't used. diane in nw mt ----- Original Message ----- From: Suzanne health Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2004 6:56 PM Subject: RE: Horehound Lozenges that's what I thought... every recipe I find has either white sugar or brown sugar..Sharyn Cerniglia <sharyn.cerniglia@...> wrote: I don't think I'd worry about a teaspoon of butter, but 4 CUPS of brown sugar?!?!? Guest guest
I don't think it would get as hard as it would if you used sugar but it would be worth a try... just to see... just use a candy thermometer and heat to the hard crack stage. There has to be a way because hard candies were made long before white sugar and corn syrup became so widely used... diane in nw mt ----- Original Message ----- From: Suzanne health Sent: Sunday, November 14, 2004 2:37 PM Subject: Re: Horehound Lozenges so modify the brown sugar with molasses or honey?
