You can cut the recipe down Gayla.. I did when I made mine. I came across the other and it works good.

Both are good...

herbalcom.com has arnica flowers and peppermint oil..

Wintergreen oil can be got at a number of places here is one http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=itemdetail & item_id=3671

I printed out the recipe for Deep Tissue Repair Oil and sailed off to town to the HFS to get what I needed. The laugh is on me...they had very few of the ingredients! I asked about Wintergreen Oil (the recipe in the files calls for a quart) and I was shown 2 and 4 ounce bottles of vanilla extract and told they probably did not carry it. So, can someone please repost sources for:

Arnica flowers

Wintergreen oil

Peppermint oil

Also I see that Suzi's post on Dec 1, 2004 is different from the recipe in the files. Any comments on this? The one in the files calls for 32 ounces of Wintergreen oil, the one in Suzi's post calls for 1 ounce. And no menthol crystals in Suzi's.

===================================

Hi Gayla,

The DTRO is really good, however, 32 ounces of wintergreen oil is rather

much. Wintergreen oil, and Sweet Birch oil, with their high content 98%

or so of methyl salicylate, have been shown to be hepatotoxic in large

amounts and most wintergreen oil you will find will most likely be sweet

birch oil as they are very similar. True wintergreen oil is quite

expensive. Camden Gray sells wintergreen oil that is supposedly true but

I have my doubts. It is too inexpensive. Sweet Birch oil is much more

readily available than wintergreen and therefore much cheaper. As the

two are almost identical in content of methyl salicylate you can

understand why sweet birch is usually marketed as wintergreen oil.

Something to consider anyway. You want to also be careful with mentol

crystals as they are not totally benign either. Just words of caution

here. Do some research on them on your own and formulate accordingly.

Peace be with you Gayla.
