Guest guest
This post is in response to some parents who were talking about their child's heart problems, and I hope this will offer some inspiration. My older brother was born with a heart murmur -- whatever that is, I guess it has something to do with leaky valves. He never had any surgery for it though, since that was over 50 years ago and back then, I don't know if such surgury was available and plus we lived in a very rural area with a very country doctor. My brother, Bobby, seemed to survive his childhood ok, and his only other problems were asthma and hayfever. Today in his mid-fifties, he could be anybody's poster person for good health. His good health is obvious today, and the result of about 30 years of his self-styled health regimen. When he was in his mid-20s, a doctor told him his days were numbered if something wasn't changed concerning his bad heart and high blood pressure. So being a typical Capricorn with excellent self-discipline, Bobby changed his health routines and that change was permanent and almost absolute. He eliminated all salt from his food, as well as all processed food. He didn't buy anything that came in a can or a box or a package. His diet was lightly steamed vegetables, fruit and various nuts, along with lots of excercise, oh yes and garlic. For about the first 10 years, he'd go out to eat about once per week at restaurants or friends, with the usual meat and other junk. After 10 years, he eliminated this too. I don't know where he came up with this regimen 30 years ago. He sure didn't get it from our family practice of lots of meat and grease since we grew up on a cattle ranch. He also didn't get it from the typical advice from various nutritionists. He also didn't take any vitamin supplements or herbs. I use to question him about how he could tolerate a diet that sounded so sparse and boring. His only reply was that he only ate to live, not the other way around. But what an amazing tribute to good health he is. He never gets sick, he has plenty of energy and he just looks so good. He is also very fast, mentally and physically, but at them same time calm and centered, as well as a little cold and ruthless. It's obvious why he is so successful in a high-powered and stressful type career. He also eliminates people from his life who cause him stress without a backwards glance, as he did me. He said it was too stressful for him that I didn't take proper care of myself. ;( However, my inspiration recently for embracing the food habits of my brother came, not from him but from some informercials on TV, including Null and Lorraine Day, Md. I remember they said on their program to eliminate any stressful or negative people from their life. Maybe that is good advice for everyone. Maybe it is, but I don't see how good health is ever built on the pain or suffering of another living being, and that includes meat eating, as well as eliminating people from your life who love you. Oh well, so much for rambling. I'm glad this is moderated cause you can eliminate all that you think isn't beneficial for the typical reader here.
