What is Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Grapefruit seed extract is a biologically active botanical extract. Gse is

derived from the seeds and pulp of certified organically grown grapefruits.

The extraction process concentrates and converts the natural grapefruit

bioflavanoids and elements into an extremely effective broad-spectrum

antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic compound. This

Aspects of the antimicrobial efficacy of grapefruit seed extract and

its relation to preservative substances contained.

The antimicrobial efficacy as well as the content of preservative

agents of six commercially available grapefruit seed extracts were

examined. Five of the six extracts showed a high growth inhibiting

activity against the test germs Bacillus subtilis SBUG 14, Micrococcus

flavus SBUG 16, Staphylococcus aureus SBUG 11, Serratia marcescens

SBUG 9, Escherichia coli SBUG 17, Proteus mirabilis SBUG 47, and

Candida maltosa SBUG 700. In all of the antimicrobial active

grapefruit seed extracts, the preservative benzethonium chloride was

detected by thin layer chromatography. Additionally, three extracts

contained the preserving substances triclosan and methyl parabene. In

only one of the grapefruit seed extracts tested no preservative agent

was found. However, with this extract as well as with several

self-made extracts from seed and juiceless pulp of grapefruits (Citrus

paradisi) no antimicrobial activity could be detected (standard serial

broth dilution assay, agar diffusion test). Thus, it is concluded that

the potent as well as nearly universal antimicrobial activity being

attributed to grapefruit seed extract is merely due to the synthetic

preservative agents contained within. Natural products with

antimicrobial activity do not appear to be present.

Okay my personal comments are that if it is effective in actually

killing the yeast, perhaps it does not matter what is actually the

agent doing the killing. But that should be your own personal

decision. It is nice to have an OTC option for yeast treatment. I

did try GSE for my son, but the phenol content was too high for him.

Hi Suzi,

Thank you for the great information!

Mom is doing well except for weakness from inactivity, dehydration and anemia. I keep trying to make her get up on her own and then walk but give in most of the time and help her up.

I can't do anything about her anemia until the end of Feb except to give her raisins, spirulina and food with iron in it. No B-12 shots or iron supplements are allowed while she is taking the treatments but can't be specific on the list.

We keep trying to keep her drinking water but it is an uphill battle for unless we hand it to her, she seems to forget even though she says her mouth is dry and she is thirsty.

Other than this, she is doing great without any pain. I actually feel we have her cancer (lungs, liver, back, chest and hip), under control but we are only guessing at this point. I do know her doctor had her mentally buried long before this. Her appetite is great and her weight is holding well.

Dental Rinse. For Healthy Gums and Fresh Breath: Stir 3 drops of NutriBiotic into 2 oz. or more of water. Vigorously swish a small amount of the water for 10 seconds or more, 1 to 2 times daily. Also works as an additive for Waterpik® type units. Add 3 to 4 drops to the water reservoir. Always dilute.

Nail Treatment.Dilute NutriBiotic with water or alcohol(5 to 10 drops/tablespoon). Apply this solution directly on surface of nail along the cuticle and underneath the front of nail, or soak nails, twice daily, for as long as desired. Do not use full strength on nails.
