Guest guest
Nope, not just putting olive oil in regular lamps, although I am waiting to hear what others think of this idea. I would think it would work just fine, but have not tried the wider wicks before with OO. The simple, inexpensive way to make these is simply take a jar, like a pint mason jar, or the ones with handles to be used as mugs so you can carry it around, put a couple inches of water in, then an inch or so of olive oil. Thread a wick (I use the shoe string type) through either a disk of plastic with one of those metal wick holders you use in the bottom of candles, to prevent the plastic from burning, or through a loop in some fairly heavy gauge wire that is then hooked to the side of the jar (the wire ends up looking like those wire egg spoons kids use to dunk their Easter eggs in the dye water, but with a much smaller loop), or hot glued to the bottom of the jar. You need to allow the wick to soak for a while in the oil before you can light it and expect it to burn. You don't have to use a mason jar, but it is handy to have lids for the lamp when it is not in use. Of course, if you use wire draped over the side, the lid wont go on without lifting it off and setting it in the jar. HTH, Kim God's Blessings FarmGet more from the Web.
