Guest guest
still dose by weight and follow Andy' protocol. So 25 mg is average for an adult of average size, and given every four hours. It's fine to take his script if it's cheaper for you and then divide it up to the doses that are safer. What he suggested is not. DMSA only last four hours in the body..so why give it every 8? Headaches? Are you using ala? or too high a dose? Usually people try ala first and then find out they really need dmsa or dmps first, before graduating to ala. A few have done just ala alone. Depends on the metals that showed in testing and the degree of toxicity. > > My DAN recommended that I chelate using 200MG of DMSA, every 8 hours > for 2 days each week. Guest guest
Hi Caryn, I wouldn't use that schedule for a lot of reasons. Half-life of DMSA for one thing. Andy also talks about going at least 64 hours or there can be negative consequences over time. Also the dose seems way to big from my experience. I chelate myself, and the only time I've had headaches was before I started actually chelating when I was careless preparing the doses of my son's chelator. I would inhale some of the DMSA/ALA (I still had 3 amalgams at the time) and about 4 hours later would start getting a headache. I believe I was mobilizing mercury and not doing anything about it because I wasn't actually dosing myself on a schedule--just once a day when I prepared chelators. It was a good lesson for me as to why I follow AC's protocol religiously for my kids, and now myself. As well as seriously reconsidering this doctor's recommendations, I would also suggest you take AC's suggested supps if you're not already. I also didn't do that carefully enough for myself and found the consequences to be quite unpleasant. This is what would be called a " harmful inappropriate " protocol. The dose of DMSA is too high, the dose interval is too long, and 2 days isn't long enough. What happens with this type of protocol is mercury and other metals are stirred up, not eliminated, and most are redistributed to other regions of the body leading to long term worsening of symptoms. The appropriate way to use DMSA is starting at about 1/8 mg per pound (many adults start with doses of 12.5-25 mg, or what they tolerate, individuals are different), dose at 4 h intervals, for at LEAST 3 days and 2 nights on, then as many days off as days on. > I would like to know what others are doing. See the pages that Moria has written up on her web site. Links to her site can be found on the homepage (go to loveletters, then home page) and in the links section. Also see Andy Cutler's two books. Frequent-dose-chelation is a group set up to support adults chelating with Andy's protocol. Much information is available in the links and files there: frequent-dose-chelation/ > Also, does anyone else get headaches while chelating? Any advice to > get rid of those is appreciated. The headaches are most likely associated with the high doses of DMSA and long dose intervals. Changing to Andy's protocol should help. Also, including the basic supplements Andy recommends will help. Antioxidants are needed during chelation (Vit C, Vit E, etc) as well as minerals (Mg, Zn, and others). Lastly, did anyone try DMSA and not > tolerate it well and move on to ALA with success? > Some people do find that they can not tolerate DMSA and have been able to tolerate DMPS and ALA. Considering the way that the DAN prescribed it, I would try Andy's protocol first before giving up on DMSA. When used appropriately DMSA can help with the chelation side effects from ALA chelation.
