Guest guest
We use 100mg of 5HTP and are told can go up to 150mg. We give them at bedtime along with melatonin and it helps our boys with focus some and helps them be able to stay asleep all night. We use Pure Encapsuations thedyes <threebabygirs@...> wrote: My 5 year olds moods are so confrontational. I am considering trying to give her 5HTP. Just wanted to know if this is ok to use and what would be the best brand and dosage. Thanks, Sheila Dana and Garrett, 3 years old SCD 1 1/2 years!!!!! Guest guest
I recently tried 5-htp, and had a significant improvement in mood... made me realize how depressed I was. Seemed too good to be true, so I asked the 'ol internet to find the catch.... The only thing I found was one doc warning that 5-htp could be converted to serotonin by the liver, thus elevating blood serotonin, which could ultimately have adverse affects on heart valves through 'proliferation of myocytes'. He speculated even 50mg of 5-htp might increase blood serotonin enough to be of concern. Taking vitamin B6 with the 5-htp is supposed to increase the conversion to serotonin in the liver. (The doc is Steve , a Life Extension doc.) Has anyone looked into this more? I hear it's used a lot in Europe, maybe someone there has some info on it? I'm still going to use it for awhile, it seems like there'd be more info on this if it were a problem. Guest guest
This is what Amalgam Illness says about 5 HTP: the metabolic precursor to serotonin and melatonin. Unlike it's precursor tryptophan, 5-HTP can easily be converted to serotonin in the body with reduced blood pressure, and intestinal disturbances. It can be used with prescription decarboxylase inhibitors of the sort used with antiparkinsonism drugs (ie: Carbidopa), and a nutritional supplement mixture like this may be available. Those who respond well to serotonin reuptake inhibitors may respond well to 5HTP. I believe it to be safer than the prescription drugs most docs will pump into you if you tell them your depressed. Most of those drugs require routine blood tests for liver function. Which means they can and probably do cause liver damage. SSR's also slow down liver phase one. So care is advised in using these drugs if you have abnormal liver function...(which would be any of us with mercury poisoning) I also learned from personal experience..that SSR's don't work if you have Hg poisoning. I have tried most of them. (Been free of them 5 years now..since amalgam removal). What would happen is you'd begin to feel good and within a few weeks, it wouldn't work anymore. The doctor could not for the life of him figure out why that kept happening to me, no matter which drug they tried. He did not see that is his other patients... The side effects were awful. Constant dry mouth, can't sleep, the list goes on..anyway I would re-ask the ol internet to see if any other doctor beside this guy thinks the same thing. If it is helping you and your dose is reasonable....seems logical that it is a safer option to drugs. > > I recently tried 5-htp, and had a significant > improvement in mood... made me realize how depressed I > was. Every now and then I get tempted to try them. I have less toxic relatives that do well on them. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sticking with 5htp.
