They went in to see if they could find the blockage...she went in December 22nd to have this procedure done..since she was off of school for Winter break. While she was in there she had an episode of some sort where her heart rate skyrocketed. She had told the doctor that this has happened before but not frequently. They kept her over an extra night for observation and the cardiologist put her on Coumadin at that point and was released on December 24.Then this past August...she went in for a procedure due to two valves closing to her heart...they put in a stint (?) Caroline, I suspect that what she had was a deep vein thrombosis in the leg. The coumadin would then have been used to try and thin the blood, and dissolve the clot. It is possible that her blood is too thick, and they are keeping her on coumadin so that more clots do not develop. This probably would not have anything to do with valve repair and stents. The stent placement would be to keep a blood vessel open. It also would not account for the amiodarone, which probably means that she has arrythmias. This is all guesswork on my part, according to what you have said. My suggestion to you, would be to ask your mom if she would give permission for you to talk to her docs, and then all them and find out exactly what the situation is. It is possible (and it happens all of the time) that she is seeing different people and they are not communicating. You need to ask them what her diagnoses are, and what the meds are for. Once you get clear answers, you can determine how to help her.
