Guest guest
Maybe this is already common knowledge, but I finally looked up chapparal in my herb book and thought the info there might interest y'all. Any typos are my errors, naturally. :-) From _Today's Herbal Health_, 3rd edition, by Louise Tenney, M. H., p. 47: " Chaparral has the ability to cleanse deep into the muscles and tissue walls. It is a potent healer to the urethral tract and to lymphatics, tones up the system and rebuilds the tissues. Medical science believes that the process by which chaparral supports the system works by inhibiting unwanted rapid growth, via the vital respiratory process throughout the whole system. It is a strong antioxidant, anti-tumor agent, pain-killer, and antiseptic. It is one of the best herbal antibiotics. Chaparral has been said to be able to take the residue of LSD out of the system, thereby helping eliminate recurrences. " Chaparral is high in protein, potassium and sodium. It also contains silicon, tin, aluminum, sulphur, chlorine, and barium. " On p. 164 it says it " dissolves uric acid accumulations. " Under the conditions it is used to help, arthritis, bursitis, rheumatism and psoriasis are listed. What surprised and fascinated me about this was that chaparral inhibits " unwanted growth. " Isn't psoriasis just that? Unwanted growth of cells? And the fact that it is a natural antibiotic, one of the strongest among the herbs. Isn't that one of the newest treatment attempts now for PA, using antibiotics? I will say this: I've been taking 1000-1500 mg of it a day for a week, and I am less stiff in the mornings, have more energy, and the pain doesn't build to the same levels as last week, even though it's even more humid all day long here than the week before when I had had such a bad reaction to the humidity. I am in less pain. I'd say half as much. The other things I'm taking are 600-800 mg ibuprofin, which didn't touch the pain when I was taking it alone; st. john's wort and kava-kava in a combined supplement (for post-partum depression); ortho-tryciclen (sp) for birth control, and Usana brand vitamin/antioxidant and mineral supplements. I was taking everything else except the chaparral the week before when I was in so much pain. The chaparral is the only new addition, and my diet is unchanged. I have hope that the chaparral will continue to cause improvement, but even if it doesn't, the improvement I've had so far is worth continuing to take it. Just thought I'd mention it. :-) Kathy Fowkes fowkes@...
