Guest guest
I think you would be much better off dropping the 1000mg DMSA suppository and start on the low/frequent dose Cutler protocol. You current high dose infrequent protocol may cause heavy metals redistribution problems, cellular damage and even regression. soapforum wrote: > > Hello everyone. I am new. Guest guest
Thank you for your concern but we are being monitored very closely by a team of physicians and lab work. I would really just like to know if it is possible to add an ALA protocol to our existing chelation protocol. Thanks. > > > > Hello everyone. I am new. Guest guest
I would be really leery of starting ALA on the DMSA protocol you are currently using. ALA opens the blood brain barrier. From what I understand after the research I have done, using DMSA in the manner you are is mobilizing mercury in a way that adding ALA will allow it to redoposit in the brain, which could have serious negative effects. Lab test of what type? Often times lab tests and physicians aren't really that helpful in determining mercury toxicity or mobilization. Are you seeing any gains with DMSA protocol currently in place? If so, then continue that while you research more thoroughly the use of ALA so that you can make an informed decision about adding it. I'm happy that you feel comfortable with your current protocol, but were it me, ALA would be a definite no no for any of my children with the current DMSA suppository routine. Guest guest
Our main physician treating for this is Dr. Mark Geier. He is very knowledgable and very thorough. Would it be possible for Dr. Cutler to weigh in on this? The theory that DMSA alone will not remove mercury from the brain is very, very troubling to us. We are limited in that our treatments/services are paid for and have to be approved by Medicaid. In reading the Cutler protocol, I became interested in adding ALA because it does not require an rx. I was wondering if I could give ALA every 4 hours following a DMSA suppository, for 24 hours, or longer. We give vitamin and mineral supplementation 24 hours following the suppositories. Thanks. > > > > > > > > Hello everyone. I am new. Thanks for approving my membership. > > > > > > > > We are currently on a 1000 mg DMSA suppository every other night > > > > schedule. Guest guest
Hi, You are right to investigate this yourself and not rely totally on the dr, no matter how knowledgeable, most drs do not know how to do chelation properly. There are many studies that show Dmsa does not remove metals from the cns/brain. Andy Cutler would not recommend the dosing this dr recommended as this large of a dose of chelator given this INfrequently would likely cause redistribution and further damage to your child. Read the files on the list page of this list to find out why large/infrequent doses of chelators will likely cause children to become worse/more autistic. The protocol Andy recommends is 1/8-1/4 mg per lb of Ala or Dmsa/Ala every 3 hours during the day and every 4 at night to minimize redistribution. It is the protocol we recovered our little on and it works. Again, kuddos to you for doing your homework, just a little more to do. Guest guest
Thank you. We are limited to what we can do because of Medicaid and a lack of extra money. I did read the files and I would like to know how to add ALA to this protocol. I don't want to assume and do it wrong. But I desperately want to also eliminate mercury from the brain. We have seen improvements and I am curious about future UPPAs. OT, PT, and speech therapies are a fraction of what they were in 2006. There are no private therapies whatsoever anymore. We have never been able to afford ABA and the school has refused to provide it. We have a attorney working on that for us at a reduced fee schedule. Thanks. > > > > > > > > > > Hello everyone. I've been around for about 4 years now and have heard of many kids who got worse on protocols like this. But don't take my word for it, read for yourself. And of those kids who got worse on this kind of protocol, every single one of their dan drs! would say that they never had a patient who got worse on the protocol, but they do. Many, many adults who are mercury poisoned also got worse on theu infrequent protocol you outlined in your previous post. Guest guest
Thank you again. We haven't gotten worse on the 1000 mg DMSA suppositories every other night, as I stated in my previous post. We have gotten better. Like many parents, we have spent thousands of hours researching and we have every confidence in Dr. Geier or we would not have entrusted our child's recovery to him. I don't know of a single mercury poisoned person (or any person for that matter) who has had negative effects from his therapies. From what I read in the files on this site, DMSA and DMPS are used with ALA for chelation. What I would like to know, preferably from Dr. Cutler or from someone who is on the same chelation protocol we are on, is how I can add ALA to the current protocol. Guest guest
Hi all! I just want to say our experience with our son. We started with Andy's protocol for more than 6 months and saw GREAT gains. However, as a family we could not do it any longer as my son is such a light sleeper and waking him up in the middle of the night, even sitting up in his bed quietly, woke him up for the rest of the day. Add a newborn and a toddler was disastrous as his verbal stims and turning on all the lights in all the rooms in the house was like punishment. My husband and I could not function. We heard about Dr. Cave's protocol and read her books about vaccine schedules. After our visit to Louisiana, we started 500mg of DMSA once a week and my son is doing beautifully!!! I was soooo apprehensive because I have read all of the previous comments and experiences of other parents, but I needed to do something that fit better with our family dynamic. My son, who is completely nonverbal since a few weeks after getting the equivalent of eight shots at once (4 shots-2 w/3 in one), said " go! " and is now appropriately saying a distinguishable " open " for a bag of chips. Furthermore, he is more aware of his surroundings and is actually afraid of running in the street because of cars!!!! This is a child who used to be on a leash in public! Therefore, this is just my piece. I am sure that many will disagree with me based on previous posts and experiences, but I truly believe that you have to do what you can with what you can. Hope this helps... Suppositories have no advantage over oral administration and unless there is a reason oral administration is IMPOSSIBLE, I suggest doing it that way to avoid the psychological trauma of getting a suppository put in every 4 hours, day and night. > > Thanks. >
Guest guest
Hi. The waking every 3-4 hours is also a concern, after years of not sleeping prior to these therapies, but I am terrified of mercury being trapped in the brain. Congratulations on the progress your family is experiencing! It is our understanding that the GI tract destroys half of the oral DMSA. I read on Autism Web that oral DMSA also causes horrific yeast infections. I am not concerned about the DMSA protocol we are on, I just want to know how to add ALA to it. I have heard that Dr. Cutler is the expert on this and that is why I came to this board for the answer. I am not a doctor and I am in no position to judge the protocols other parents choose for their children. I just want to know the best way to add ALA to our protocol. I'm sorry if my previous posts were in any way unclear. Thanks. > > Hi all! I just want to say our experience with our son. Guest guest
- I'm glad this worked. Sometimes, people do IVs and they work - but too often they don't, and it often doesn't happen until they have done it for a while. That is the issue. Now, why did you choose to use 500mg?? Why didn't you do a lower dose, since that would obviously be safer, and why didn't you do it say 3 times a day if doing it 6 times was really not possible? Clearly, doing it more often would be safer. Dave. ---------------- Posted by: " sarahghaleb " sarahghaleb@... sarahghaleb Date: Fri May 30, 2008 9:44 am ((PDT)) Hi all!
