Guest guest
Not to laugh here, but I can't beleive someone would think something so ignorant..that bum scratching was an " autistic behavior " . If that's the case there are a lot of old men in this country who need to be checked for autism..running around diggin themselves and scratching and adjusting...what is that? In fact we had a discussion on bum scratching, itching in our house a few months ago. I had a certain adult (um,dh in fact, but I didn't tell you guys this) that came to me and asked why ones bum would itch like crazy all the time. I said..ahh..the yeast monsters got ya! Remedies were handed out, itching was gone. Walah..miracle medicine woman is on the job! He's a happy man now. But he's not autistic and you all know darn well, you be scratching if it be itching. Just that we are adults and we are discreet. Children are not. Sorry, it just baffles me how ridiculous the general public can be in lacking knowledge, especially a therapist who claims to specialize in autistic children. So she chooses to generalize that they all itch their bum because it's part of their brain function!!??? It never ocurrs to this lady that maybe, just maybe it could be something else. Like one did not wipe properly, or one has yeast, or one has food allergies..or maybe..yes..one has pinworms. Which are actually more common in childhood that most would like to think. Congrats to you mom for determining what was going on and " enlightening " this therapist. For the love of pete, what has this world turned into that we overlook ever medical problem as a " ingrained part of ones personality " . Eek... ok vent over... > > Oh, one of my pet peeves is the 'all Autistic people do that' > explanation. My son was digging in his rear end (the urge would stop > him dead in his tracks), would bend over at the waist and groan, was > constipated, chewed his nails so badly he chewed THROUGH a nailbed > and had dark circles under his eyes. A therapist who also worked > with adults on the spectrum told me that all of her ASD clients dug > in their rear end and 'that is just what Autistic people do.' > > Boy, did I enjoy calling her when we found the pinworm in his pull- > up! The behaviors I mentioned above disappeared less than a week > after giving 1 Vermox pill. > >
