Guest guest
Hi group, I'd like to add vit E to my son's supplements. I was reading Dr. McCandless' book " Children with Starving Brains " and her dosing is in 200mg/day for a child less than 5 yo. I didn't realize that the one I bought from MOther's Market was in I.U. I know that i.u. means international unit, but I have no clue as to how to convert it into mg. It is a Solaray brand and it is 400 i.u. per perlecap. I need help on how to convert the dosages and what is the proper dose for a 5 year old 44 lbs. boy. Also, I've been wanting to try the mega dose Vit A, since I think my son meets the criteria. She says 400,000 i.u. for 2 days. Is this 400,000 i.u., divided into 2 days or is it 400,000 iu per day for two days? Please help. Lastly, ALA is okay to mix with orange juice right? It is so much easier to give it via a syringe at night when my son is half asleep. Thank you. lie ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Hi lie, Not 100 % sure on the conversion but I found this: In the USA, the RDA for Vitamin E is 15 mg per day (22 IU for natural Vitamin E and 33 IU for synthetic Vitamin E). and this: the average human diet supplies 10 mg (14.8 IU) of Vitamin E (d-Alpha-Tocopherol form) per day. And I have a bottle of Vit E says it has 335mg = to 500 IU natural Vit E, so it looks like 10IU would be about 6.75 mg so 400IU would be 270 mg Any one with a maths brain please correct me if I've gone wrong. The other info that I have on it is for adult dosing: The usual therapeutic dosage of Vitamin E is 400 - 800 IU per day. The optimal daily allowance (ODA) of Vitamin E (for adults) is 400 - 1,600 IU per day (in the form of Mixed Tocopherols). The therapeutic dosage of Vitamin E commonly used by athletes seeking to prevent Free Radical damage during and following Exercise is 1,200 IU per day. Maximum Dosage -Dosages of up to 3,200 IU of Vitamin E have been used daily in a wide variety of subjects for periods of up to two years without any unfavorable side effects occurring. You need to have enough Vit C with it - the Vit C keeps it recycling back to the anitoxidant form and stops it from oxidising etc. Gail. Guest guest
Hello Gail and Dana, Thank you both for your help. Thanks for the info on Vit. E Gail. And to Dana, thank you for the info on Vit. A. YOu guys are the best! By the way, I saw a post asking why her child is emotional after round 7. Today, my son was also emotional at school and has behaviors (flopping on the floor during circle time, throwing wood chips at his peers, whinny and cries for no reason. We finished round 1 last MOnday per AC protocol using ALA only (for now). During rounds, I was giving 10 drops of GSE until the day after and slowly reducing it back down to 2 drops. Like today, I will be giving two drops of GSE soon. I used activated charcoal on Monday to Wednesday two hours after GSE to ward off aweful die offs. Any input would be appreciated.
