Thank you. I was hoping to get lots of responses like that of peoples

experiences. I wonder if minerals have an affect sooner. I also was curious if

any parents whos child was low in something ( deficient ) how long it took for

them to get into the normal range. I am guessing all kids are slightly different

where the effect of certain vitamins/minerals are concerned. But you would think

the bodies absorption would be about the same.

Nutrients don't operate in a vaccuum; meaning they stimulate other

nutrients and processes in to action. The validity of your mom's tale

probably depends on the vitamin and what result you are looking for:

If I remember correctly, it takes more than a month to raise blood iron

levels and to feel relief from anemia. Diseases resulting from severe

deficiencies, like Rickets, cannot be cured with one dose of Vitamin

D/calcium... so the Old Wive's tale could apply here.

It takes weeks to months to raise intracellular zinc levels, too, but

you can see physical changes almost instantly in some situations (my

son stopped eating sand, crayons, pencil lead after only a few doses of

zinc).

Another example was magnesium, for me. I took mag and it immediately

alleviated the dead/heavy feeling in my legs at night. I have no clue

what it did on the cellular level.

I'm not a scientist, so forgive any word choice errors.

at 28 months my son had iron deficiency anemia. We

had to work at it really hard for about a month -

added iron to his multi vit, gave him iron rich foods,

etc. he had to get checked I think every three days

at first, then once a week till it went up enough on

two consecutive tests.

His Zinc... we've been workign on that daily since

10/22 and not improving. I just switched from a small

pill to liquid. It taste nasty, but, not too bad in

orange juice. hoping this works better.

I'm wondering how you came to the conclusion that you should give that

high a dose and stick with it so long. From reading your materials,

I know you probably started with lower doses and added more as he

tolerated it and kept adding as you saw benefits. Is that right?

Then stop adding additional dosing when you start to see negative

reactions and then just stick with the tolerated high dose until you

see more negatives and then slowly lower it and observe? I'm

insecure on how to handle the vitamins and supplements. My friends

and family already think I'm a little nuts for turning my kitchen into

a vitamin factory as it is!

Thanks for all your help with this.

I tried zinc picolinate in the pill form as that is

the easiest to digest. it is by solgar and there is

no taste to it.

I tried one other pill but it had other ingredients

(it was a Zinc Superpill we got while we were in

Canada) no one likes it, it tastes like grass but that

wasn't due to the zinc - to me I felt like I was

eating pellet rabbit food. Too bad it was $53 for the

bottle.

What tasted bad was the liquid zinc... I got it at

Whole Foods, it is not Zinc Picolinate but I got it

due to its liquid form, thought it might be easy to

use it in juice... it says to just put it in your

mouth - but by the way I don't recommend anyone ever

trying that... It was terrible. And burned.

my little one hates to swallow pills (hes only 3) and

so I'd rather not do that unless i have to. the

liquid zinc probably tasted bad to me, because I'm not

deficient... I did put it into orange juice and no

one else in the house seemed to notice it was there.

that might explain the difference...
