Guest guest
Just wondering if anyone knows just how long it takes the body to really absorb and have full benefits from vitamins/minerals. My Mom used to say it takes a month for multi to have health benefit is that old wives tale? lol
Guest guest
It probably depends on what form the supplements are in. The more digestable (liquid, powder, capsule) the less time, I would think. I would suggest doing one at a time for about 2 months. I read somewhere that if you do more than one at a time, you won't know what is working, what is a problem, and what doesn't do anything. I made this mistake when my DAN! Dr. suggested several supplements. We ended up taking him off them all and now he's doing great. All I know is that you shouldn't do a super dosage of B vitamins for a long time (my opinion). > > Just wondering if anyone knows just how long it takes the body to > really absorb and have full benefits from vitamins/minerals. Guest guest
Nutrients don't operate in a vaccuum; meaning they stimulate other nutrients and processes in to action. The validity of your mom's tale probably depends on the vitamin and what result you are looking for: If I remember correctly, it takes more than a month to raise blood iron levels and to feel relief from anemia. Diseases resulting from severe deficiencies, like Rickets, cannot be cured with one dose of Vitamin D/calcium... so the Old Wive's tale could apply here. It takes weeks to months to raise intracellular zinc levels, too, but you can see physical changes almost instantly in some situations (my son stopped eating sand, crayons, pencil lead after only a few doses of zinc). Another example was magnesium, for me. I took mag and it immediately alleviated the dead/heavy feeling in my legs at night. I have no clue what it did on the cellular level. I'm not a scientist, so forgive any word choice errors. Pam > > Just wondering if anyone knows just how long it takes the body to > really absorb and have full benefits from vitamins/minerals. My Mom > used to say it takes a month for multi to have health benefit is that > old wives tale? Well, it took several months of giving my #2 50,000mg vitamin C per day, before I was able to even reduce the dose. I gave him 10 capsules of B100 every day for several months, before I was able to reduce that. It took two times doing the high dose vitamin A protocol before measles virus was eliminated and he was fully loaded with vitamin A. If I had given lower doses, I would probably still be giving these supps. So it really depends on the supplement and the child's body. Guest guest
Amy, Have you been working with different forms of zinc (citrate, picolinate, etc)? Also, making sure copper is reduced/eliminated from diet? Divide zinc in to several doses per day? Zinc shouldn't taste nasty if you are deficient, I hear. What else is in the capsule? From reading your materials, > I know you probably started with lower doses and added more as he > tolerated it and kept adding as you saw benefits. Is that right? Yes, I started with lower doses, and I was able to watch them wear off. So I increased the dose, and noted when it wore off. I wanted to give supps 3x per day, so I just had to figure out how much to give so that it would not wear off before the next dose. > Then stop adding additional dosing when you start to see negative > reactions and then just stick with the tolerated high dose until you > see more negatives and then slowly lower it and observe? Yes, once the higher doses started causing problems, I would decrease them. Dana
