Some kids need carnitine to absorb other vitamins, like vitamin C -

and this latter can give diarrhea at a certain dose. So maybe it's not

the carnitine that's causing the diarrhea but the other supps that are

better absorbed along with it. My daughter took loads of Vit C until I

added carnitine & then I had to bring the dosage down because of loose

stool, which I figured was coming from too much C. Just another

possibility to consider.

lie,

When we started l-carnitine, my son also got more and looser poop as

well as extreme hyperness. It wasn't that he was absorbing extra Vit

C since I wasn't supplementing that at the time. I think the dose

was just too high. We started at 750 ml/day (equivalent to 750 mg)

split into 3 doses. We eventually settled at about 400ml/day split

into 2 doses. We have since raised it to @ 500 ml/day split into 3

doses with no return of the really loose stools. My son was 39

months old and weighed about 30 lbs at the time. He had tested low

in carnitine via bloodwork.

Thanks, I thought about this as well. I reduced the C

to 500 mg per day. I guess I'll wait it out for a few

more days.

It can be many reasons, including what has already been written.

Are you using L carnitine, or acetyl L carnitine? Acetyl is absorbed

better by some people.
