Guest guest
Cod liver oil is from the liver of the fish which is rich in Vitamins A and D. Omega 3-6-9 (fish oil) is made from the flesh of the fish which does not contain significant amounts of A or D. The brand Nordic Naturals comes to mind with the name Omega 3-6-9, but maybe others are called the same. Also, the fish source of cod liver oil is, of course, cod, but 3-6-9 fish sources vary (anchovies, sardines, etc). http://omega-direct.com/ You can go to the above site and run your cursor over each bottle to see the different amounts of DHA/EPA content availalbe. It seems cod liver oil can provide similar amounts of DHA as the fish oil, but that the EPA content is typically higher in the fish oil blends. Not all of our kids need the extra A and D, which is why they might avoid cod liver oil. Some kids have lost or greatly reduced visual stims after adding cod liver oil to their regimen (Vitamin A is the aide here). I've also heard advice to use cod liver oil in the winter when you don't get a lot of direct sun exposure (thus you aren't producing vit D) and fish oil in the summer months. I don't do that.
