I put mine in my compost or garden, except for super or complete tonic with I dry and use.

I was wondering When we make herbal tinctures and strain out the liquid, We have all that herb left over. Is there any thing We can do with it besides throw it out? Is is still good, can it be used to tincture a second time? It just seems like a waste to throw it all out.. Any Idea's?? Eibhlin

Hi Eibhlin,

There is lots you can do with it. You won't find much in 'em though. You

can always grind 'em up fine to use as a filler in a meatloaf. ;-)

You could always calcine them and make spagyric tinctures. :-\ You

can use them in your compost, which is what most folks do.

Actually, a lot depends on how long you tincture for. If you only

tincture 2 weeks chances are there is still a fair amount of bioactive

constituents available. Not a lot though. This is why I tincture for

longer periods of time like 3 months or longer. After 6 months you're

not going to get much more out of your herbs anyway. Course, you could

always, depending on the type of herb tinctured, make an infusion or

decoction and then add that to your tincture. You will most likely

dilute your tincture anyway if you are using EverClear to get it down to

50% alcohol. Just a thought as that way you will get all the alcohol and

water soluble properties into one tincture.
