Guest guest
I'll let others handle the dosing, etc. BUt, we open the capsule, put it on a spoon on top of applesauce, and he takes the bite. Guest guest
Hmm. & nbsp; In applesauce seems like a good idea, but how do you give it at night? & nbsp; Does your son eat it off a spoon in his sleep? Caryn Reid
Guest guest
Caryn, We put the chelator in applesauce before ours learned to swallow capsules and she just woke up briefly to swallow and then was right back asleep. For other kids it takes a round or two to get them to do this automatically. Normally they learn very quickly. Ours never even remembered being woken the next morning. Guest guest
Yep. We found it easier than mixing it in liquid because its open, close, done. It took much longer to get him to drink the juice, even if it was just a little bit. Guest guest
Hi We give our DMSA with 4ml of pear juice in an oral syringe straight into mouth, even at night and our 4yr old son barely wakes, 90% of the time. We are up to round 8 and now that he seems to be handling rounds ok, re: no obvious side effects we are going to start ALA next weekend (round). Good luck Heidi Re: [ ] Starting DMSA in my 3 y.o. He is 44 lbs, so I am thinking of starting with 6.25 mg DMSA every 4 hours round the clock for 3.5 days (4 days and 3 nights) then break for 10.5 days (or more if necessary). >Just a few questions: >1) Does this dose sound appropriate? It is about 1/7 mg / pound / dose for him. Perfect. >2) He isn't taking milk thistle yet, but I intend to add it tomorrow. What dose and dosing interval is appropriate for a 3 y.o. (44 lbs) who will be undergoing chelation with DMSA? Not such a critical issue with DMSA, more with ALA. In any case, I think usual adult dose is 150mg 4x/d. So, for him, perhaps 50 mg 4x/d. >3) How do you administer the DMSA to a child who can't swallow pills on a regular basis yet? We've been succesful at having him swallow small capsules a couple of times, but not regularly enough to be having him take a capsule every 4 hours day and night. Does it mix well into water or other liquid to give it in a syringe? Yes, but you need to use an acidic liquid, like orange juice. You can keep it in the fridge for no more than 12 hours. That means, a 25mg cap can be divided by 4. >If not, would it be suitable to mix it into a spoonful of fruit puree? If you are not storing it, that's fine. >4) How long should we wait (ideally) until we add in ALA? No fillings, right? When was his last vaccine? If more than 3 months, you can do it right away. >Thank you for your help, >Sheri

I have always put it into grape or pomegranate juice (we just finished our 2nd round DMSA/ALA) because that's all my daughter will drink. Should I switch to O.J.??? I don't want to do anything to mess this up, we've already messed things up chelating a different way in prior years so I want to do everything correctly this time around. Guest guest
If you're just going to put it in and then give it, then it should be ok. (People do this, for example, using something like apple sauce.) On the other hand, if you are going to keep it in the fridge for a while, then you need to use something acidic. Guest guest
Heidi - the DMSA mixes well or even dossolves into the pear juice? This would likely work very well for our son since he is great with taking meds from a syringe, but he's not so trusting of things given on a spoon. Thankyou! Once you know what the DMSA does, add the ALA. > > Thank you for your help, > Sheri >
