Guest guest
I am not sure I want a multi yet (though it sure would be nice), but what I would love is if some company would come up with high quality, minimal filler, low dose, small (size 3 or 4) capsules of all the stuff I want. I, too, am tired of dividing the stuff up. Anne > > So many posts and questions on supplements and no-one seems interested > in expressing what they would like to see in a multi supplement? Guest guest
I think we were one of the few that could use a multi, and if you can there are already many, many out there. Most people find they do better with individual supplements and that's been discussed her more than a few times. Guest guest
Thanks for replying. If you give me a description of what you would like I can pass it on to the owner. I asked for a multi that was lower than the commonly seen supplements without some of the things we typically supplement seperate like vitamin A ( cod liver oil ) and to leave zinc or calcium out as they do better seperate. I thought if the supplement had all the things in it we give our kids 4 times a day and it was low dose for that reason.. except maybe some things people may not want like copper iron etc. If I could get some good feedback he is willing to work on something. I just dont want to see this opportunity to pass. Guest guest
, I think it is a great idea. However, I think lots of kids can't even really do the Bs, some are sensitive to C and need corn-free, etc. Lots of parents use a multimineral like Minerall (available at Kirkman's) without too much problem, but the vitamins are more of an issue. I still love the idea of lots of teeny tiny capsules. I would be more than happy to give my son two small caps per dose rather than have to crush, divide, reencapsulate, etc. Make any sense? One way I have gotten around this is to take any and all palatable supps and mix them with some organic pear/cranberry juice, add lots of water, and just have my son drink that throughout the day. That way he is getting this stuff 6-8 times per day, I can send it to school with him, etc. Not ideal, since the dosing on stuff isn't perfect, but if I did get it perfect, I would probably last a day until I jumped off a bridge. Of course, lots of stuff can't go in there (zinc, Bs, etc.) but I cover alot of the basics (mag, C, Calcium, Carnitine, Minerall, etc.) this way. Guest guest
I see what your saying. I have been having a problem trying to cut up 100 mg caps to like 5mg. It very hard to find supplements for my sons' needs as he is only 20/m and many of them are like 1,000 RDA for him.My house looks like a pharmacy lol.. I did look into mineral all but there was a caution statement on it that says not for use on people under 18 arggg. The multi mineral pro support is a starnge mix and dosage. Kind of lost on the minerals. I am very lucky my son seems to do well on most vitamins. The b vitamins I only give in the am and very small dose just as support. I am not into the high dose B vitamins, at least not right now. More just support while chelating. Is it true zinc and calcium should be given seperate? Thats what I heard. I am pretty sure my son is low in calcium. When I upped it his visual stimming was less and eye pressing, squinting etc stopped. [ ] Re: interest in supplements , I think it is a great idea. Guest guest
I don't do a lot of stuff in teeny increments, like 5 mgs, but I would love to have normal caps with 1/3 what they have OTC, if that makes sense. We had the same calcium issue a while back. There seem to be serious problems with calcium regulation in lots of our kids. My feeling is that no matter what anyone says on any board, if you see calcium deficiency signs, supplement calcium until you get the system working better. Signing off for the day. Need to do work. Guest guest
I just know that with my kids, some take some, some take another. We found a pretty basic, multi that doesn't contain too much of what we really want to focus on, but contains a bit of what we don't want to focus on. But, the more I learn about the supplements the different kids need, the more I learn it hasn't really been helpful. So, I don't know that a multi is really what I want. With all we are learning, adjusting and changing, I don't know that at any one point there would be any one multi that would do what we need. For example, as I add the mito cocktail supps that Dana suggested, I will add them one at a time, increasing or decreases according to observation, until I get what my daughter needs. Then, as she starts to absorb, I'm under the impression that we will again be adjusting. When I read about mito cocktail, I saw there were multis for that, but I wouldn't want to do it that way. I wouldn't know what any reactions were caused by if given as a group from the start, or if there was one she wasn't tolerating. A multi gives us less control of the individuals. A few of the supps I give are combos - like the calcium/magnesium or the A/D. And I saw when ordering supplements for the mito, that they combined some of the same in single doses, but again, no real chance to alter dosages if combos. I often see here that someone had to add more of this or their child didn't tolerate that, etc. The kids are so individual I don't know that anything but individual supplements would really be helpful. So, I guess that is why I didn't respond. It just wouldn't work for my situation or perception of what needs to be done. Even for my kids, I've got them and their Dad all taking different combos according to their needs until we can get straightened out enough for hair tests and chelation (and I can read Andy's books - I finally ordered the first one yesterday). So, any input I would have for needs would have changed in a month, or even a day. I think it is great that " Our Kids " would do that, and if it is helpful for someone else, hope they will give input. Guest guest
On the other hand, I would add that on more than a few occasions I have thought my kid wasn't tolerating something that is pretty essential for these kids (vitamin A, for example), or that he was already too high in it, when in fact what I needed to do was just bear down and give it in reasonable doses every day and not think that tinkering was a good idea. A good basic multi might help with those issues, but maybe not. Guest guest
> > So many posts and questions on supplements and no-one seems interested > in expressing what they would like to see in a multi supplement? The problem is, there is too much variation in what each individual child needs. So the multi I might put together for my kid may not be useful to very many other kids. Also the needs change pretty often as well. For example, my son needed a high dose of B1 and B5, a medium dose of B3, no B2 or B6 at all, B12 sublingually but with folinic acid. Other kids may have totally different B vitamin needs according to their particular metabolisms and which pathways are blocked. After years of chelation, he needed B6 and could tolerate B2. You can try working with a pharmacy and getting your supps compunded, or you can do it yourself. I did it for years. Nell
Guest guest
, You might want to invest in the capsule maker at www.capsuline.com. I use mine all the time. Guest guest
That makes sense. I know all kids are different. I just felt there might be something we could recommend that would be helful for many people. It doesnt have to be a multi. Maybe a combo of just antioxidents using the best ingredients. Or a yeast support of biotin, with a few other ingredients that help keep yeast in check? He is pretty open to suggestions [ ] Re: interest in supplements I don't do a lot of stuff in teeny increments, like 5 mgs, but I would love to have normal caps with 1/3 what they have OTC, if that makes sense. Guest guest
> > So many posts and questions on supplements and no-one seems interested > in expressing what they would like to see in a multi supplement? My son never really tolerated any multis. And, as soon as I developed one, his needs would change and I would need something different.
