Anne, i know just before i was diagnosed with aih about two and a half years ago, i wasn`t feeling well, and i had a glass of wine with a friend, This made me pass out, this had never happened to me before. I also noticed when i was going through bad patched with vomiting, i always had a cough at the same time. I don`t know if this was just coincidence,or partly due to the illness. I have read that mucus can build up in the abdomen with aih. I hope your feeling better now. best wishes jacqui

Hi Trish...
I have not had this test

done.
I would recommend that you go to

http://www.about.com and search for

Thyroid disease..there is a lot of

information there.

I know my mom had the test for

nodules and " hot spots " ...she is Hyperthyroid. Are you

hypo or hyper?

They will probably want to

domore tests to see if maybe the nodules are

cancerous..or " nothing " .

Know this...and maybe it will

of " some " comfort to you...IF it is cancerous? they

can remove the whole thyroid without much of a

problem...I have a friend who has had this done...then you

would go on thyroid hormone replacement therapy for the

rest of your life. And you may feel like a new person

:-)

I am lighting a candle for you this evening and

sending you calming energy to know that ALL is well...YOU

are going to be okay :-)

Take a deep

is well and you are going to be just

fine.

~Amy~

I had similar testing done a number of yeas ago

and was told that I had a large nodule. I was offered

the option of " watching and waiting " or immediate

surgery. Foolishly, I opted for the hemithyroidectomy

surgery and have been dependent on thyroid meds ever

since. This huge nodule turned out to be benign, and was

accompanied by benign hyperplasia throughout the gland. I

think I would have been better off keeping my nodulated

thyroid, which still functioned to a large extent, and

then been only on a minimal dose of thyroid meds. I

might not be dealing with the overweight and all the

other hypo symptoms I have now.

Don't let them

talk you into surgery without a damned good reason,

I¡Çve have done the program for almost 3 weeks. Some days ago I posted

Hi,

I finally got serious and went on a candida diet and bought some herbs

to kill the candida. I am 2 weeks into the program and have run into

some problems.

I need to know if any of you all faced the same things with the die off.

I am terribly constipated all of the time and also my liver is clogged

up. The Doctor told me it was the candida.

Any of this happen to you all?

Inulin will improve fecal content and habit, and will also restore

the correct bowel flora in the long-term.

Energy levels will rise with an antioxidant proram including

glutathione precursors. Glutathione is an integral link in the Krebs

(energy) cycle, and it is depleted in everyone with illness or

infection as it deals with the toxin load.

I've replied by now;

I get digest mode so don't expect a reply the same day.....

Glutathione is an antioxidant and detoxifier created from precursors

inside our cells. So it only works somewhat intravenoiusly, and hardly at

all if you eat it.

When glutathione is low we ALWAYS see many kinds of disease and

infection; when glutathione is not depleted the reverse is true.

All that is on my website.

Sorry this happened to poor Nick! I do know that our first rheumy said

that kids with this disease have a " hyper immune system " . She said that

Chris' asthma and allergies are all related to his immune system

problems and the jra is right along with that. The reaction Nick had

sounds like an allergic reaction that my husband had to a cat. Not all

cats do this just a certain type. Also you can develop an allergy to

something. My oldest took amoxicillan without trouble when she was

small, but at 13 she developed an allergy to it. Broke out in hives

unexpectedly. Perhaps Nick has developed an allergy along with his other

immune system problems? When he goes back to the dr, I would definitely

question all this. Michele (16,pauci & spondy)

Need some Input

Hi Guys,

I know this is not really JRA related, but it concerns Nicks health

and i wanted to run something by you all in case you have come

across this.

On Saturday we were at a family members house for Christmas. We have

visited this house before, but not spent soo much time indoors.

After being there for 6 hours, Nick comes up to me and says his eyes

hurt.. within a matter of minutes, his eyes and lips started to

swell, his whole face swelled, but his eyes and lips were the worse.

I would say his lips were 3x their normal size and his eyes were

nearly swollen shut. After talking to the nurseline we gave him

benadryl ( after driving all over the boonies to find some at 9.30

at night, we were an hour north of our place out in the country) and

he did better, although his eyes didnt completely go down till 24

hours later.

We have no idea what could have caused this allergic reaction...we

stopped his amoxacillin ( started on wed for strep) he was around

smoke and cats ( done this before with no problem) and only new food

eaten that we could work out was caraway seeds in some bread.

My question is that since your kids were dx with JRA do they seem to

get some weird stuff going on???? I really dont know whats going on

with poor Nick but it seems like one thing after another.. hes

really not looking his normal self, i cant put my finger on it, but

hes just not " right " if that makes sense!

just wondering what you all think???

Hi Helen,

Poor Nick! It's so hard to know for sure what might have caused a

reaction like that. A similar thing happened to Josh, just once, when he

was given an antibiotic. Strange thing was that both he and his sister

reacted in the very same way. I wondered if maybe it was that particular

batch, that maybe it got contaminated or something. Both of them broke

out in hives and itched terribly until we discontinued the antibiotics

and gave Benadryl. There are so many unknowns. I just hope that Nick

feels better and continues to improve.

Take Care,

Georgina

Helen,

If the Benadryl helped with the swelling I would say it was an allergy to something, what I don't know.System kids are prone to more allergic reactions especially medicines. That must of been scarey having Nicks lips swell like that.Glad he's feeling better and hopefuly he will be back to his old self before Christmas.

-Thanks Becki and everyone..

I took Nick in to see his ped today and he decided it was not the

smoke or the cats, but felt that it could well have been the amox.

So hes taken Nick off the Amox and put him on another anti-biotic

and im also to keep up with the benadryl for the rest of the week.

Ive been having the hardest time to get Nick to take the amox..i

dont get it, he took the nasty tasting naprosyn 2x a day for 6

months without complaining and takes his vioxx pill now without a

blink of the eyelid, but he refuses the anti-biotics.. he says hes

feeling fine and doesnt need it. Thankfully the new anti-biotic is

just once a day for 5 days, but its a struggle.

Becki, its good to know that systemic kids are more prone to

allergies to meds, ill have to remember this. Nick has had Amox

before, but that was pre-JRA days....

Ill be sure to mention this little episode to his rhuemmy when we

see her next..

Hi Helen,

I'm so happy to hear that Nick is feeling a bit better, even if the

reason for the reaction remains a mystery. I hope the Benadryl helps but

doesn't make him feel too sleepy to enjoy all of the festivities.

======================

Hi Ray,

For starters I would suggest a bowel cleansing followed by a liver

cleanse. This kid should be on an all raw food diet with lots of

juicing. Cleansing is the best place start as it will eliminate the

reason for the virus to be there (mucus and toxins). He should eat

plenty of foods high in Vit. K or take a K supplement but do some

research on the foods as some are not too synergistic with Vitamin K

supplementation. Creative visulization can be of great benefit in this

instance as can meditation. Yoga or Tai Chi will help to center him too

and give him balance. None of this should cost an arm or leg and should

be much more beneficial for him than the pharmaceutical toxins and

typical allopathic approach.

He might also consider doing fasts of several days or juice fasts too. I

don't know what his diet is like so hopefully you will give us much more

info. But the above would be the best approach to relieving the liver

of the overload it has to deal with. Therefore, I shall submit this to

you and shall await your thoughts and any more questions you may have.

Peace be with you Ray.

============================

Hi again Ray,

I meant to post this earlier.

Complementary and Alternative Therapies

Conventional exams, tests, treatment, and follow-up for

hemophilia are very

important. Never delay conventional care when you have bleeding or have

joint

pain or swelling. However, there are a few CAM therapies that may be

helpful in

conjunction with conventional care for certain symptoms and after

effects of

hemophilia. The degree of spontaneous bleeding has been linked to

emotional and

psychological stress. Some mind/body therapies may help relieve stress

and

anxiety. Studies even suggest that hypnosis may reduce the need for

blood

transfusions.

Self Hypnosis

Several preliminary studies suggest that those who have

learned self-hypnosis

need far fewer blood products over an extended period of time (namely

two to

three years) than those who have not learned the technique; one study

included

relaxation training along with hypnosis. Published and unpublished

reports on

individual patients also suggest that hypnosis may help blood clot

better and

may reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Nutrition

No studies have examined the link between nutrition and

hemophilia. However,

it would be wise to avoid vitamin E and fish oil if you have

hemophilia, as they

seem to increase bleeding time by keeping platelets from clumping.

Vitamin K

plays a role in normal clotting and may be useful either from dietary

sources or

in supplement form, but research is needed in this area.

Herbs

No studies have examined the value of herbs for hemophilia

specifically.

However, based on their own experience, herbalists may recommend herbs

that

strengthen blood vessels and act as astringents (causing contraction)

to make

bleeding less severe, such as the following:

Bilberry fruit (Vaccinium myrtillus)

Grape seed extract (Vitis vinifera)

Hawthorn berry (Crategus monogyna)

Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana)

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

In the case of hemophilia, however, herbal remedies should not

be used

without the guidance of an appropriately trained health professional.

In

addition, people with hemophilia should avoid ginkgo

(Ginkgo biloba), as it reduces platelet clumping.

Homeopathy

There have been few studies examining the effectiveness of

specific

homeopathic remedies. However, a review of several case reports found

that the

following remedies were helpful for individuals with hemophilia and

even reduced

their need for blood-clotting substances like factor VIII. Before

prescribing a

remedy, homeopaths take into account a person's constitutional type. In

homeopathic terms, a person's constitution is his or her physical,

emotional,

and intellectual makeup. An experienced homeopath assesses all of these

factors

as well as any current symptoms when determining the most appropriate

remedy for

a particular person.

Arnica — for internal or external

bleeding immediately following an injury; helpful for shock or trauma

Carbo vegetabilis — for people with

pale skin and weakness who are extremely frail, even listless, but like

cold and

fresh air

Crotalus horridus — used when

there is bleeding into the muscles and when blood appears thin

and dark;

this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who are tall, thin, and

pale,

have diarrhea and an aversion to warm food and drink; may have fears of

being

alone and death

Hamamelis — for bleeding from a cut or

wound, especially useful in nosebleeds, hemorrhoids, and broken blood

vessels in

the eye

Lachesis — for heavy bleeding that is

dark in color, especially in red-headed individuals that are jealous

and

depressed

Millefolium — for internal or external

wounds with significant bleeding and poor clotting

Phosphorus — for frequent, heavy

bleeding; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who

experience cold

sweats and have a desire for alcoholic beverages; the individual may

also feel

as though clothing aggravates the throat

Secale — for bleeding that is worsened

by heat and lessened by cold
