Guest guest
Hi, My son and I both suffer from irritibility, mood swings, anxiety, etc. I struggle with depression, have for many years. We were both tested and have low cortisol levels. I am also hypothyroid and feel my son is too. Our temps are low and pulse. Armour is an option. I'm just trying to research other options. Maybe sarcodes (homeopathy), supplements, etc. before I render my thyroid inactive (and my sons.) Maybe that's not the case. Maybe down the road I could get off the hormones. I don't know. So much is involved in malfunctioning thyroid. Sex hormone imbalance, low cortisol, vit./min. deficiencies, etc. I have tried Armour on and off. I usually get on for a short time and panic because at first I feel good but then it levels off and that means I need to increase the dose. I begin to feel that I'm shutting down my thyroid and I go off. Also I notice an increase in weight when I go on it. I feel I'm not ready just yet to do that, but I might. I probably haven't given it enough of a chance. Also I am chelating with ALA and NCD hoping to get relief. Has anyone read " Mood Cure " but Ross? She really covers every issue that affects mood. She uses aminos to correct imbalances in the brain that cause what she calls " false moods " . There are 4 mood types. At the front of her book you take a test. You answer questions to see what the mood you are suffering is caused from. Low serotonin, low catecholines, low thyroid, noradrenalin, Gaba, or pain-killing endorphins. This book is new to me but I can't put it down. Rather that doing drugs you do certain aminos and supplements and eat certain good-mood foods that balance your neurotransmitters. You will not stay on these forever and everyone is different as to how much they need or how long they stay on. She covers adrenal and thyroid as being a cause for mood problems. Also a very important one for my son and possibly other (including myself) is the chapter on pyroluria. This genetic defect depleats the body of zinc, b6, manganese, and others causing high stress in the individual suffering with it. It also can cause schezophrenia. She also mentions a book " Depression Free Naturally " I want to get by Joan Mathews-Larson. She has some real good info on moods and pyroluria. There is a test in the back of Mood Cure for pyroluria. Like I said I'm new to this book and am in the process of trying the different protocols she recommends. I presently am trying B-12 and folinic. Ross says that SAM-e in depressed people is very low. She said B-12 and folic acid are required for its production. I have tried the supplement SAM-e with no good results but I want to try high doses of B-12 (3-5000) to see if it helps. Also I'm doing the b- 6 and zinc for pyroluria. I've not been tested but my son has and he was positive. I am wanting to try GABA, DLPA and Tryptophan. I tried 5htp and it gave me an initial up only once. She says that it doesn't work on all people and to try tryptophan. I have tried St. swort too and I don't like how it makes me feel. Try Ross (www.moodcure.com) and Mathews-Larsons website(do a search I can't remember the website). Larson has supplements you can order from her. She lists the problem and then under it she tells you what supplents you need. Most of Ross' suggested supplements can be purchased in the health food store. Moodcure is sooo good. I'm around relatives and others who suffer depression and other mood problems so it has been sooo interesting. Try a library if you don't want to purchase. My main delight with this book is that so many people don't understand how brain chemistry affects people. Even bulimia and anorexia is an imbalance. So many blame some traumatic event in a person's life is to blame for depression, etc. This does contribute, but our inability to cope is biological. Our thyroid, adrenals, and brain chemistry determine how well we handle things. I hope the woman whose 12 year old daughter (and anyone else) might benefit from doing some of the aminos, diet, supplements suggested in the book. The effects can be instantaneous, within just 5-10 minutes for some people. God bless, Cassandra Huffman
