5HTP Dose

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what would be a good dose to start at with 5HTP. My

capsules are 50 mg's. I gave my son 1/4 of the capsule last night and

it seemed a little calming for him. I'm trying to find a good

substitute for an SSRI (clomipramine) the neuro him on. His

clomipramine was going to be dosed at 12.5 mg's for a week and then go

to 25 mg's. I didn't know if I should stick with this kind of dosing

for the 5HTP too. Should it be given once a day or twice a day?

i think it can be given either once or twice a day. 100mg is the

dosage i take and i find it relieves moderate depression. Any other

dosage produces confusion and severe headaches. i'd say provided its

helping his depression then stick on your current dosage. im an adult

so i may need more 5htp.

I just posted about a similar question recently and it seems there

are two groups of dosing ranges. One group is low, 50mg or so and

less and there are others giving much more. I have started with

33mg then cut the dose in half after some initial hyperactivity. I

am no back up to 33mg with what looks to be some pretty good results

so far.
