Ruth,

This very tired symptom seems to be connected to the strain of flu going around

this year, everyone who was in my office last week had it and being always

exhausted and lots of sleeping were the main complaints. Hope your little guy

feels better.

[ ] Rash and really sleepy

My son has had a real run with illness lately. We first contracted

strep and we did a 10-day run of amoxicillin. After about 7 days on

that, he got influenza B and was down with fever for a whole week.

Now, it has been a couple of days without fever and he is back in

school. Of course, this has been a tough transition back and he's

had a rough couple of days.

I'm posting because yesterday he had afterschool basketball and he

did not participate, but fell asleep on the gym floor, while about a

million little kids ran around bouncing basketballs. Today, I was

talking to him and within about 1 minute, I heard him snoring -

looked over and he'd fallen asleep! I also noticed he now has a rash

on his face and torso, of very small bumps, almost not visible, but

all over. He said they itch only at night. He is also very angry

when we wakes up, sometimes kicking and/or hitting - not at all

typical for him.

Anyone know what could be going on? Could we be having some kind of

viral reaction?

Fifth's disease? It is going around here. It isn't as bad as it

sounds, many don't even have symptoms. The rash and fatigue are two

of them, though. Do his cheeks look like they've been slapped?

It's viral. Parvovirus 19, I think. Not the dog virus!

This to me sounds like an allergic reaction to something, what I see in my

food allergy guy. Sleeping goes with it, glassy eyes, running nose and a

slight fever.

I don't know how others feel about benedryl, but for me sleeping at night is

terrible with a rash. A good nights sleep and some good detective work?

I hope you figure this out and he feels better soon.

Ditto on the allergies here. My 2nd daughter used to get allergic

reactions that sound just like this. Minimal rash, very sleepy -

falling asleep in strange places, quickly, any time of the day. And,

though she was usually sweet and quiet, fits of anger, rage and

generally witchy. We ended up seeing a one time doc for this, and he

diaged the allergy as insects - black flies mostly. It was closing off

her bronchial tubes, and that was causing the irritability and

sleepiness. The rash was secondary, and minor compared to the other

symptoms. She had no other allergies, and was in great health. She

also grew out of this allergy by the time she was 10 - it surfaced at

about 5 if I remember correctly. The only other allergy in the family

is our ASD son's antibiotic allergy.

Hope you get it figured out. Best to your son.

Try giving OLE and biotin. My #1 is going thru this right now.
