Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the dialogue on this. I am really at a loss as to what else I can try for her to get her off the meds. She eats no grains, no starchy carbs, NO refined sugar( well once is great while I give her a piece of chocolate. But typically she goes months with out any) no processed foods which eliminates all preservatives, colors, hydrogenated fats etc etc…. and gets homemade yogurt that is teeming with pro-biotics. Dairy is limited to foods that have no lactic acid and I try to stay organic there as well. Was very happy to find organic half and half for her yogurt. J She was unable to digest or process raw foods at the start of this diet a little over year ago now. She has progressed to being able to digest raw things and so I have been feeding her more and more raw- carrots, apples, pears, bananas, strawberries. She eats very little red meat, maybe once or twice a month. She loves Organic Smart Chicken and organic eggs, occasionally eats pork roast. I also puree her combos of steamed veggies such as kale, spinach, asparagus, tomatoes, cauliflower broccoli, peas etc… I try to put as many a possible in the puree because she is such a crummy eater and it’s a chore to get these things into her. I am somewhat limited as to what I can force into her or she will just stop eating for me totally. She does not really associated things in her mouth with ‘good feelings’ due to all the medical procedures she has had to endure. She will not break down and eat when she gets hungry either. I was hoping the Bacopa would help as it’s an anti-fungal, which should help counter act the prilosec’s ability to create a happy place for fungi, it’s been known to kill h.pylori, which she has never tested + for, but hey… who knows? And it increases acetylcholine which * might* help the LES stay closed, in theory anyway ;-) I know we had the yeast under the control, she is rarely constipated anymore unless she has to consume an illegal food such as a med , gets real ill or I let her have too much of an illegal food. She did test really high for salmonella!!! A 4+, it’s as high as you can get. She has no symptoms at this time. We think she got this from a health care worker as there were no other reported cases of Nima salmonella in the US at that time, but there was an out break in the middle east in chocolate. She was in and out of the hospital during this time and exposed to many health care workers, and lots from the middle east who could also have been carriers and not know it. She had the typical symptoms at first, though did surprisingly well with it. We didn’t need to do anything for her at all. There are no drugs to kill this stuff off. She also has an imbalance of oh boy… filed those tests know I am going to butcher the spelling.. krebelsia?? I am not even sure how to pronounce it, so spelling it is twice as hard LOL No Dr is interested in ‘fixing’ it however, even the Dr who did the original testing. Like yeast it’s normal in the gut, but few see the imbalance as a problem. There are antibiotics that will kill it off. I have been drowning her in pro-biotics, but have no way of way of knowing if it’s working unless I test her again to the tune of about $200, which of course insurance won’t pay. Anyone see anything here that I can do different? I am pretty dedicated to the SCD because it took one very messed up sick kid and made her over all very healthy. Since we can’t get off the prilosec, it’s going to be an on-going battle, like bailing a boat with a hole in it, but at least now I have a pail!!! Before I didn’t have that and we were sinking big time. Now we keep our head above water. Her GERD has gotten better on the diet, but hasn’t healed it or stopped enough to get her off the meds. Which leads me to think it’s structural with her. There is a surgery to tighten the LES, but it has it’s own set of problems, not to mention it’s surgery.
