I've just started LDN and this is my 4th night taking it. The first one I had some wild colors and weird sensations, but felt rested in the AM. The second night I had a dream that I couldn't remember and slept poorly. The third night I felt I was awake most of the night and didn't sleep much at all. I'm taking 4.5 mg., but wonder if I should somehow decrease the amount in the capsule or is there a break-in period when you don't sleep for awhile??? What is the previous experience of first time users of this medication? I have recently lost 25 pounds and I am on the low end of normal for weight and height--reason I am thinking maybe I should be on lower dose. I am not looking forward to getting any sleep tonight either.

Thanks for the reply. Will try again tonight, but don't have any sleeping aids other than melatonin. Taking it for non-hodgkin's lymphoma. From: jannz2 <jbreslin@...>Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Using LDN for 1st time and have insomnialow dose naltrexone Date: Sunday, July 20, 2008, 9:24 PM

Hi Donna,

I think I would try to give night-time dosing at least a couple / few

weeks. I know it can be a miserable feeling when you don't get your

sleep -- so do the best you can.

Are you able to take any sleep aids ?? Others have said that it helps

them get through those first couple / few weeks when starting out.

What condition are you taking LDN for ?

Best wishes...

Jann

4.5mgs is the optimal adult dosage. If you're having trouble

sleeping, you may want to drop down to 3.0mgs or even 1.5mgs and work

your way back up from there.

Try Melatonin, 5-HTP, Valerian or GABA as a sleep aid.

It took about a week for me to be able to sleep again after starting

LDN. Some may take up to 2 weeks. But, remember the good news, (as far

as I am concerned,) if sleep is affected because of LDN, I figured it

meant my body wasn't used to the endorphins, proving I needed them,

and LDN was working.

I promise you it is worth it to stick it out.

Also, in my family's experience, those that took LDN, and did not have

sleep disturbances didn't really notice much difference in regards to

mood.(some improvement was noticed, but not a drastic one) Those of us

that did have the sleep disturbances, noticed that after we were able

to sleep again, our moods were greatly improved. And we were the ones

that really needed some mood improvement...if ya get what I

mean....LOL. Let's just say we weren't always peaches to be around...HAHA!

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I recommend that you cut back on the dose and work your way up slowly

to 4.5 mg. I'd take 1.5 mg. and, when your sleep improves, wait

another few days and then move up to 3 mg., etc. There are people who

can just start right out at 4.5 mg. and not have sleep disturbances

but that seems to be more the exception than the rule. For some

people, the disturbances can persist for weeks. You don't know yet if

you'll fall into that category. So you could give it a couple more

days at 4.5 mg. but, as I said, I recommend you drop down to a lower

dose.

What I did to combat disturned sleep was this...

Wait for a day or 2 (no ldn), catch up on some badly needed sleep. Then

start on 1mg per night for week 1, move to 2mg for week 2 & now I'm on 3mg.

which is where I plan to stay.

Good luck,

Lorna

Donna, since you have lymphoma (I too have cancer) I would try and stick with the higher dose and maybe get a sleeping aid from your Doctor, that's what I have done, I take both melatonin and Temazapam..............

Learned from my LDN expert friend that Dramamine is good to use as a

sleep aid for those with LDN-induced insomnia.

Hey Art -- that Dramamine is a good tip. It has always made me sleepy

when I've used if for boat rides etc. I also heard it was good for

anxiety..???...My niece takes it when she has to fly...she has a fear

of flying.

The LDN expert friend I heard it from is , and hopefully she

will chime in with the dosage. I would guess to follow the directions

on the Dramamine package and see how it goes.
