Guest guest
I'm not so sure I'd dismiss the symptoms. Personally, I know now I definitely would not. Mercury does affect speech. And if there was an exposure, I would address it w/ further investigation. I regret not addressing the " soft signs " w/ my son who's now 18. There is that darn window and it does close after time, not only with damage being harder to treat but also w/the child being less cooperative as they move into teenage years. And...here are newly discovered problems w/another heavy metal that are seen cropping up later in life after early childhood/infant exposure(applogoies if this studies been posted already): Lead exposure may be a factor in Alzheimer's. The toxic effects of lead could be more far-reaching than we thought. Monkeys exposed to the heavy metal during infancy may be predisposed to develop the equivalent of Alzheimer's disease. Re: 2 year old boy with " severe " articulation issues Posted by: " Donna Bowerman " donna12345au@... donna12345au Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:39 pm (PST) My NT son who is now 7, wasn't talking until he was 2 and most of it was not very well understood by other people, although his father and I knew what he was trying to say. Had a hearing test which came back fine. Was no mention of autism with him as he showed no other issues. Speech was still a little difficult to understand by age 5, but has absolutely no problems now with all sounds of speech, although sometimes has a little trouble getting his words out. As long as there are no other symptoms of autism/heavy metal poisoning, especially not responding to name, hand flapping, etc, I wouldn't be too worried at the moment. As long as there is speech, even though he's not getting certain sounds out, I believe he will get there eventually. Donna. [ ] 2 year old boy with " severe " articulation issues My friend has a 2 year old son that was just diagnosed with " severe " articulation issues. Apparently he talks a lot but is not able to say several sounds. Is this mercury poisoning? Is this indicative of more developmental issues to come? Or does this sound like just a true speech problem that can be fixed with speech therapy? Apparently the father had some speech issues as a young child.
