Guest guest
TO ANDY WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ZINC SUPPLEMENTATION IN THIS PROTOCOL? (being that Zinc has so many side effectts on the tummmy; I know when I took it my somach was in pain; felt like i ate " cut glass. I would never take Zinc again for this reason; so what's up with Zinc? Why do you recommend Zincl it is easlily avail in diet. thnx. . ps I read a story of a boy who took liquid zinc and threw up all day@ It is necessary to have skip periods to avoid > increasing body levels of > > copper and > > > zinc too much as ALA inhibits their excretion. Guest guest
Not Andy, but want to put my 2cents here. I don't care much about the theory so won't argue about it. Just know that too many of our children improve greatly with zinc supplementation. With my son just after 2 days on zinc I could see " eye contact " for the first time at all. And if he was obviously extremely deficient with zinc before protocol I don't expect him to become toxic with zinc just after adding ALA. And he did not. After one year on ALA I don't see any signs of toxity with anything. Only improvement. As for your stomac ache it could because of too big dose for the start. Most of us here prefer to introduce supplements " low and slow " to avoid bad side effects. Guest guest
Many of our kids have low zinc levels. Zinc deficiency can lead to a host of problems. We supplement zinc to restore health and often rid or alleviate symptoms like depression, low histamine, chronic diarrhea or eating non-food items/mouthing non-food items. Sometimes we supplement zinc to help lower elevated copper levels (not by chelating it). Copper is an extremely important mineral until you have too much of it. I think we need to be careful when we evaluate a supplement, so not to rule it out for everyone because it didn't work well for us. B6 wreaked havoc in my household, but it is still quite useful for a large portion of the ASD population, for example. To add to that B6 example, what I did was look for a form of B6 that worked for my son. That happens to be P-5-P. Perhaps you can find another way to use zinc? Try to take it with food. Try forms like citrate or gluconate or picolinate and experiment. Use it only in a multi? I know that is not exactly what you are looking for, but I had to chime in (a complusion of mine).
