At that time, Lydia had only been born with cleft lip and palate. *Welcome to the list. One of my nieces was born with unilateral cleft lip. She had surgery almost a month ago. At 20 mths. of age, she had a school eval and was placed in the autism spectrum. She also began speech. At 24 mths. or thereabouts, she rec'd a medical diagnosis of PPD-NOS. This has recently been switched to a straight autism dx last fall. Lydia was vax'd on time, with no delays. By the time she was 15 mths., we rec'd a letter from our clinic that their refrig. system was off, and we were to bring the children back in to be completely re-vax'd. *Yikes! I also have a nephew with vaccine-induced autism. Well, we did this for only one of the vax...and she reacted to it by getting a large lemon size bump at the injection site, so we decided NOT to re-do any more shots. It was at this time, we started diving into the research on immunizations. Lydia is now 6 years old. She goes to a special ASD kindergarten classroom, and every day with her para is mainstreamed into the typical kindergarten classroom for 2 hours. She seems to be doing fine, and absolutely loves school. She is coming along verbally. She remained non-verbal until the age of 3, signing before that. We are about to start her on the gfcf diet, with a regimented vitamin protocol, following a DAN! certified doctor. *Be careful about the DAN! docs, some recommend dangerous protocols (more often for chelation). Tell us about the vitamin protocol being recommended. Many of us here are GFCF, myself included. It feels alittle daunting to get started, but from what I read on other lists, it will/should come along pretty well. I hope to learn much from this list, and find some like-minded parents. *Consider doing a DDI (Doctor's Data, Inc.) hair elements test and applying the counting rules. The doc can order the test (make sure he/she orders the correct one) or you can order one with out a doc through DLS (Direct Lab Services). If you mention this list they'll give you a discount. ~Lesa Married for 19 years to Steve....
