Guest guest
Trial and error. My son was going through a difficult period where he was constantly chewing and biting his hand. I was desperate for this to stop because he was breaking the skin on his hand. I had read that this behavior sometimes is helped by increasing minerals, specifically zinc. So, I slowly started increasing his zinc dose. Every time I increased it, I saw an overall improvement in behavior, plus the biting and chewing let up dramatically. I bumped into my DAN! doc and explained to her what I was doing. She said to continue. We have checked his serum zinc level a few times for safety and it was in range. This high dose of zinc has given us an overall improvement in my son. In fact, it’s been one of our best interventions. He also expanded his food choices quite a bit. Guest guest
I gave my son 1 tsp(15mg) zinc the other night and he said he had itchy lips. I waited a few days and gave him 1/2 tsp zinc and he seemed okay. Today he got 1/2 tsp and his face and ears got red/flushed for awhile. could this be a copper dump or something else? He also is asking for chocolate chip cookies alot today. He has high copper/zinc ratio. Just wondering if I should continue the zinc, according to testing he really needs it. TIA
Guest guest
I am assuming it's liquid zinc because you said teaspoon. What else is in it?? Itchy lips can be yeast, so can sugar/chocolate cravings. Red ears/flushed face can be food allergy, phenols..just some suggestion. Post the ingredients for the zinc supplement. > > I gave my son 1 tsp(15mg) zinc the other night and he said he had itchy > lips. I waited a few days and gave him 1/2 tsp zinc and he seemed > okay. Guest guest
Yes, but just in case there is an issue with this one, you can always experiment with another form. You are giving molybdenum and liver support too, right? Other folks want to jump in - anything else for copper issues? Guest guest
True, you may want to try zinc citrate or gluconate. Something readily absorbable if you continue to see the itching. We tend to use plain old zinc citrate tablets crushed up and put in juice...tends to be easily tolerate and cheaper. Something to consider if you continue to see problems with this type of zinc. I think you covered it for copper Dave. Other than avoiding nuts (high copper foods) if he's high copper, drinking spring water not tap..since most houses hopefully have copper pipes. > > Yes, but just in case there is an issue with this one, you can always experiment with another form. > > You are giving molybdenum and liver support too, right? > > Other folks want to jump in - anything else for copper issues? > > Dave. > -------------- > Posted by: " laura19982005 " laura19982005@... laura19982005 > Date: Sun Mar 30, 2008 6:32 pm ((PDT)) > > I gave my son 1 tsp(15mg) zinc the other night and he said he had itchy > lips. Guest guest
He did itch a little last nite, but today he is doing really well, some improvement. Recalled stuff that happened in school, more attentive. He also keeps sticking out his tongue, moving it around as if he just found it. He also had a major urine accident this morning(which is rare, never has accidents). Wondering does copper get excreted through urine. Guest guest
quick thought...for the copper (and therefore, zinc) info, I liked the site by Dr Larry ...way back when. It has changed alot since I used it - around 2ish years ago...and the real info seems harder to find, from the main page, that is - big sigh, at least for me...Will go browse it a bit tomorrow...if I can find the pages/info I liked, I can/will post them... I believe that his site is at drlwilson.com wishing you the best answers elizabeth
