Guest guest
Lesa, Sorry, not Charlie here...let me tell you what's worked here I would get a hair test first if you haven't. Other metal testing isn't useful. If you know she has metals based upon exposure or hair testing, anything else is not needed. We don't recommend Challenge testing. *Where a large dose of chelator is given and then urine is collected)(search post for dmsa challenge test to see why we don't recommend them) If you dose it ever four hours you will be giving it at midnight and 4 am, then 8am (she'll be up). So your only waking them twice. The child gets used to it and after a few rounds does not wake at all. Mine no longer wakes, he sits up and takes it without opening his eyes. You can use a medicine syringe to squirt it into their mouth slowly when they are sleeping. DMSA comes in powder in capsules..so does ALA. You open them and divide them up to get the dose you need, then mix that into whatever you will be giving it in. Some people use a tiny amount of juice. How do you get them up?..you wake them. First you should talk to them about this process before you begin it if you can. So they know your coming at night. We made a small book about it that we read over and over and we talked about mommy waking him up at night to take medicine. And yes, some kids protest and scream and throw pillows at you. Some do not even notice your squirting juice into them. Mine protested...but quickly learned I was not leaving until he took his medicine (he was only three though) Six year olds may be more cooperative and deeper sleepers. By round three he was not even waking up anymore. I go in and say " med time, sit up to mommy " . He sits up. I say " open " he opens and I put it in his mouth. Then I say " drink " and I give him some water. Then I say " sleep " and he lays back down. He never opens his eyes at all anymore. So they adapt. If this is a huge concern you can get a prescription for dmps and dose that every 8 hours. Although, I still think that requires waking them at some point too. Providing the hair test does not reveal a lot of Lead. DMPS is not as effective for Lead but good for mercury. The way to think of this is if your child needed insulin at night, would you not give it because it was too hard to wake them? Same thing, If they are metal poisoned and need this to get better, and you have to wake them at night...then that is what has to be done. I find that children sleep more soundly than we do. They adjust very quickly to this. By the way my son is 5. I also do this to my 12 year old. She does not remember me bringing her pills to take at 4am either. Basically, I am the one that is without sleep. The kids do well. I know all this can seem so overwhelming and foreign at first. It really does get easier as you go. > > Hi , > We have not begun the chelation process. But, my question is: > How is the DMSA or the ALA administered? Is it in a powder form? Guest guest
You do want to do a hair test, have you done that yet? As for administration - put a dropper in their mouth and squirt it in. After the first time or two, they don't even wake up. Dave. ----------- Posted by: " mom4adoption@... Is it in a powder form? If so, what is it mixed in? How in the WORLD do you get a child to wake up and drink it at 12am, 3am and again at 6am? I am really trying to wrap my brain around it!! LOL...I cannot for the life of me imagine my daughter (6), allowing me to make her drink 3x in the night???? Should we have heavy metal toxin testing done before we start? Or is that not necessary??????? Thanks so much for your help!!! ~Lesa
