Guest guest
Hi Guys: Please pardon the crosspost, but this probably ranks as one of the top 5 most important decisions of our lives... We could really use some good advice here. We live in Spain (and VERY happy there...), but the educational system is AWFUL. Almost everywhere, it's 25 kids to a class, and no aide. Speech and OT is bad-to-nonexistent. Our little boy would be completely lost. He is now approaching age 6, so schooling is now compulsory, and there's no option to homeschool. It kills us to do this, but we're strongly considering a move back to the U.S. (I'm American). Fortunately, I'm self-employed (just need a good net connection), so the chosen area's job situation doesn't matter. We will go literally anywhere that gives our son the best possible educational resources. But obviously, there are programs everywhere. We're looking to narrow the playing field a bit. Who out there is absolutely ecstatic with the schooling offered in their district? We've got four basic criteria: 1. We prefer floortime/DIR over ABA. We have no problem with some ABA components, but it shouldn't be the main focus. 2. District should be comparatively resource-rich, with dedicated, full time aides and highly qualified faculty, and fairly low student/teacher ratio. 3. Flexible, with my wife and I as highly respected members of our son's treatment team. 4. Significant interaction with neurotypical peers. We really need some guidance. many thanks,
