Guest guest
hello, my dd has been taking Enfamil infant formula fine about 3 times. Once by itself and the other two times, I mixed it 1/2 and 1/2 with breast milk. We started her on amoxicillin for ear infection and now she's reacting to Enfamil. I gave her usual 1/2 formula and 1/2 breast milk and she started having hives all over her mouth, neck, chest and back. We stopped the 1/2 mixing and she was fine on breast milk only for 1 week and decided to give just the formula 2oz and the hives came back. did amoxicillin have anything to do with this? anyone have experience with allergies to infant formula? I'm allergic to soy so I don't want to try soy formula for her. thanks so much for any advice.
Guest guest
Is she off the amoxicillan because hives are an allergic reaction to that medication? It's possible she is allergic to the formula. antibotics can do all kinds of things to the body. Ear infections are usually yeast related or milk intolerance. My kids did not tolerate Enfamil but they are milk protein intolerant. Is there anyway she can stay on breast milk? We get rid of ear infections by treating with antifungals for yeast. My daughter tried every formula on the market and the only two she could drink were Nutramigen and Good Start. Both are milk based but do provide enzymes to break down those proteins. When she got older we removed milk entirely and put her on rice milk. We gave my niece digestive enzymes to tolerate her formula. But hives were not present, just digestive problems. Sadly, all the commercial companies offer is milk based or soy. There are recipes to make formula for infants who can drink neither of these. (Weston Price Foudation). One is meat based, the other is milk based but uses raw milk instead. The meat based one is an option for children who are intolerant to dairy. You can try some probiotics to help her gut, perhaps the antibiotics have causes leaky gut, and proteins are getting through and causing an allergic reaction. That's my best guess for why this is happening if she is done with the antibiotics. soy formula is not good either, it provides a steady flow of xenoestrogens and is not good for thyroid or hormones in children. I think with hives..it's safe to say..no more Enfamil. > > hello, my dd has been taking Enfamil infant formula fine about 3 > times. Try increasing the yeast protocol and see if that helps. Dana
