Penny,

Thanks for sharing this! I am new to the this board and feeling very

overwhelmed with life as I am 7.5 month pregnant with a whole house full of

members with yeasty issues. Your baby steps message really helped me...

thanks so much!

I can't speak for everyone but I know at its worst, for some of us " die-off "

can make you feel like you have the flu - every bone in your body aches,

yada, yada.

But that's a worst case scenario. I went to a nutritionalist and told him

that I wanted to take it slow and easy with killing the Candida and wasn't

going to put up with die-off that lasted weeks.

So we went gently, a step at a time. I built up my immune system for awhile

by adhering to the strict diet and then, after about 3 weeks we started

introducing probiotics. And this time, instead of feeling terrible when

I took an acidophilus tab, my body accepted it. And it has progressed from

there - I've been taking all kinds of antifungals lately and no " die off " to

speak of.

So, put a sign on your kitchen counter that says, " Baby Steps " and give

yourself a pat on the back every day that you manage to " behave " yourself

candida-wise. You'll get there.

Thanks . I wonder where I picked up that " baby steps " thing? I'm not

sure, but it has helped me a lot.

I don't know about any of the other people on this forum but anxiety is one

of my " symptoms " and I've often felt overwhelmed by the tasks that lay

before me. It's so easy to feel swamped by this condition. For one thing,

you're often not feeling your very best so you just do the essentials. And

then Christmas comes along and nearly wears you out. And then you realize

you haven't cleaned out the hall closet in a couple of years. And so it

goes........ So that's when I remind myself about putting one foot in front

of the other. (And you're pregnant on top of all that!)

Someone said about Candida takes years to develop it and years to get it

under control. Which is a tad exaggerated but I guess what the underlying

message is, you have to be patient - you can't take pills for ten days and

then voila. (I often wonder if I didn't get this condition because I AM so

awful IMpatient. Or was.)

For me, the hardest part of Candida, was the years it took to find out what

was wrong. And I might sound a little Pollyanna-ish here but I also like to

remind myself now and then that I'm lucky this condition is " curable " .

You said you have a whole household of " members with yeastie issues " . All I

can say is " wow " - and that you've come to the right place. I can't say

enough about the knowledgable, helpful people on this forum. Good luck.

I really struggled with my oven being too hot so i sympathize. My Excalibur

was one of my better purchases. Yesterday my daughter left a new book out in

the rain and i just popped it in the dehydrator! It's crinkly but readable.

My husband says photogs use the excalibur too. I would go with the

five-tray. It's more affordable and fine for most purposes. Sorry that

didn't answer your question though.

Hi my oven only goes down to 170 but with the door closed and the light

on I can get close to 120. I have done pepitas with just the light and

it's worked fine.

About the pepitas, my oven only goes down to

200, I tried cracking the door open but that makes the temp

fluctuate constantly from about 90 to 180 degrees. What would be the

best way to make crispy nuts? I don't yet have a dehydrator

my oven only goes down to 170, AND i think it runs hot, and i just use it.

no problem. i turn it to " warm " , which it claims is 170 but i think it's

hotter, and i toss my almonds or whatever in, and by the end of the day

i've got crispy almonds. presto! (that's particularly impressive when i put

in pumpkin seeds. i can't figure out how they turn into almonds in the oven

but wow!)

Oh good, cause I just went ahead and poped 'em in! I kept the door cracked open

though. I have kvass on the counter and kraut in the fridge (still working up

the guts to try it LOL, I've never had sauerkraut before so I don't even know

what it's supposed to taste like!)

Hi Ja,

Awesome way to start. I agree it is a grand adventure and one very well

worth following if one wishes to have true health. Congrats on getting

to where you are now. Very well done.

Peace be with you Ja.

Thanks Don Q. Eitner and Suzi,

At my lowest, I weighed 123lbs, now 140lbs consistantly (size 10 is fine for me).

I am 5'4". Note: I got pregnant when the toxins started to exit.

Diane,

I think you are making wonderful progress. I can tell you are on the path to

taking control of your situation, and even if it isn't done yesterday, if you

just check one thing off your list every few days you will find yourself with

most of your items accomplished.

I think you said in a recent post that you dont necessarily love the water as a

chosen venue for exercise, and that may make the 80deg temp seem a little less

tempting, but I thought you might be interested in knowing that most college

competition pools are kept in the 76-78 deg range....so depending on how

aggressive you think you are going to be working out...a 90 degree pool would be

VERY warm for someone who was really getting a workout.

Our community has had as big an economic downturn as any, and the school decided

to lower the water temp, which on the coldest winter days meant a few days where

the temp was actually holding closer to 76deg. The first lap was a tad

chilly....but by the end of the workout I always was surprised at how

comfortable it felt. The class before the lap swim is an arthritis class and I

did hear that the water temp was a problem for some of the more stationary of

the bunch.

Perhaps you can find a way to do a combination of sessions...a few in the

therapy pool and a few in the cooler pool. Just ask yourself to get there 2X a

week for a month and see how it goes. Baby steps.

Do your notes from Kasten suggest injections for pain control? Are you looking

at epidural steroid injections or facet joint injections? I also was not sure

what you were saying about authorization....do you mean that you can not see

DrKasten again without another authorization of your PCP? In any event, if you

can see the pain doc perhaps any success you have their will help pin point the

current source of your pain.

I am curious what your fears about seeing DrBridwell are. Are you worried about

travelling alone to see him or more about what he might say? Also....you say

that you noted your pain the day of your visit to DrKasten as a 3.....what would

you say it is now?

It occurred to me that you might be a patient who would benefit from keeping a

pain journal. It might help you see where you are, your progression, or lack

thereof, and help you remember what things that you do make it likely that your

pain will be increased the following day.

There is a very good website maintained by the American Pain Foundation and I

would suggest you go to this page " Lets Talk Pain "

http://www.letstalkpain.org/for_patients/professional.html

It has excellent information on talking to your doctor about pain, as well as a

link to a downloadable pain journal. The videos are good too. If you keep one

for a few weeks you might find that you are clearer about what the facts of your

pain story are, and you will feel more confident when you discuss them with

DrKasten, or other health care provider.

You are going to have yourself quite a notebook before you are done, filled with

questions for the docs, pain journals, office visit notes....all the things that

create the picture of who you are as a patient! As the woman says in the video,

it is best to prepare for your doctor visits like you are preparing for an

important business meeting or other event.

Take Care, Cam
