HI! I am a new member to the group and I have BPEI. I am 33 years old and I

have to beautiful kids. I was the first generation in our family to ever

have BPEI. I had my first child after trying for two years and my second

after eleven years more. I did see a infertility specialist for many years

in between but my ovaries were very resistant to all the medications and we

spent thousands and thousands of dollars. I do not have regular periods and

I do not ovulate normally. But my specialist did not Know anything about

BPEI and either did I at the time. I never knew that the BPEI could affect

your fertility until my second son was born with it, 21 months ago. That

was the first time in my life I researched BPEI, I was hoping for many more

treatment options for him than I has a child. But things have not changed

much at all. I did get pregnant both time with out the aid of infertility

drugs, lets just say it was not easy, took lots and lots of determination! I

have never seen a geneticist to find out if the BPEI could be at the root of

my fertility probems. Although through my research I have found it only to

cause total ovarian failure, which I do not have. I hope I have helped you

a little. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at

llogan@.... I have enclosed a picture of my kids for you.

Good luck,

Kirsty,

I asked my daughter's Dr., (Dr. Seiff at UCSF) about this and he told me he has

never heard of infertility in Bleph patients, which surprised me because of all

the talk about it. He said he treats whole families with the condition and has

had patients who have it, bring in their children.... So maybe there is some

hope in that for you.

Hi Kirsty,

I'm really new to the group and in discovery with our 6 Month old daughter who has bpes, but we were told by our genetic specialist that when she starts puberty, they will do hormone level tests, to determine if she will have ovarian failure etc. I don't know if this information is correct, or even if it's helpful to you. But, I am wondering if they are able to give you hormonal tests at different times of your monthly cycle to determine similar information? Maybe worth looking into. I would also be very interested in knowing the % of females who have or are having babies with bpes, of course keeping in mind that our little girl may want children herself later on...

Good luck

You are the first to confirm for me that it is indeed possible. And i see your older son does not have bpei.

May i ask some questions, feel free to email me privately or not answer lol

i just would really like to know.

a) what age you started your periods and if they were ever semi-normal

Hi Kristy,

I am so glad I could give you some hope! I think it is really promising that

you will be able to have children.

I started my period at age 13 and I would say they were very normal until

after the birth of my first child. That is why I am not really sure that my

BPEI has anything to do with my infertility problems. I have had no other

female problems, except for the failure to ovulate regularly, thus causing

irregular cycles. I had my first child at 20 and my second at 31. I do not

have any other abnormalities. At the age of one, I had the eyelid muscles

shortened to try and open the lids a bit more and didn't have the frontalis

sling until the age of 13. Which changed my whole life and the way I felt

about my self. I finally felt good about my self (normal!?!).

My 21 month old is doing very well and has no surgery as of yet. He will

have the sling done probably around 3 or 4, when his leg has grown enough to

use the fascia from it for the surgery. I prefer that to the donor fascia.

My surgery has lasted me 20 years now with no problems. I would like him to

have the same results. My surgeon has said there is more of a chance of

having to replace the donor fascia. He also has no other abnormalities. He

is so beautiful and smart, I thank god everyday for him!! He really has

made me a better person.

Through my research I have also found that infertility is usually associated

with BPEI when the gene is passed from a father to a daughter. I obtained

this information from NORD.

Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Any ideas for infertility?

PENNI

----------------------------------

Male sperm carry enzymes that dissolve the tiny crevices in

the female egg membranes, so that a sperm can gain entrance into the ovum. So if your partner is lacking enzymes in his

body, that process will not happen, so have your partner take lots of enzymes! I also have an article about infertility I

could snail mail you if you want to give me your address. Unfortunately, I don’t have it on my computer.
